Falcons Drop Two Against USC Aiken in PBC Opener

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo baseball team (6-10, 0-2 PBC) dropped a pair of games to USC Aiken (7-6, 2-0 PBC) to open up the Peach Belt Conference season. The two games marked the first two game for the UM baseball program in the PBC. Um fell in game one 13-9 and dropped game two 4-2. The Falcons were led by sophomore Josh Headley (Gardendale, Ala./Gardendale) who went 4-for-8 with a double and a run scored. Sophomore Duston Daugherty (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) and senior Andy Revell (Albertville, Ala./Albertville) led the team with three RBIs each.

Daugherty was 3-for-8 with a homerun, three RBI and two runs scored. Revell was 1-of-9 with a double and three RBI. Senior Kevin Garcia (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Dunedin) was 4-of-9 with an RBI while freshman Austin Dubberly (Helena, Ala./Pelham) went 2-of-7 with four runs scored. Senior Chris Sosebee (Warrior, Ala./Sumiton Christian) picked up a pair of hits including two doubles and two RBIs. Junior Josh Dabbs (Hueytown, Ala./Hueytown) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Junior Joe Prokop (Verbena, Ala./Chilton County) picked up the last RBI for the Falcons with a solo homerun.

Senior Heath Tapscott (Hartselle, Ala./Hartselle) got the start on the mound in game one for the Falcons and took home the loss as his record fell to 2-2 on the season. He pitched 4.0 innings while striking out three and walking six. Senior Caleb McLeod (Pleasant Grove, Ala./Pleasant Grove) pitched the final 5.0 innings while striking out three and walking two.

Junior Kyle Butler (Powder Springs, Ga./McEachern) got the start in game two and pitched 7.1 innings while striking out seven and walking just one. He gave up no earned runs and scattered eight hits. Sophomore Wes Rich (Pelham, Ala./Pelham) pitched the final 1.2 innings and struck out one while holding the Pacers hitless.

The Falcons will return to action Sunday, Feb. 28 at 1:00 p.m. as they host USC Aiken in the final game of the three game series.
