Falcons Drop a Pair to Georgia Southwestern, 17-8 and 10-1

AMERICUS, Ga. - The University of Montevallo baseball team (6-14, 0-5 PBC) dropped a pair of conference games to Georgia Southwestern State University (8-4, 2-0 PBC) 17-8 and 10-1. The Falcons were led by senior Kevin Garcia (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Dunedin) who went 4-for-8 with an RBI and two runs scored. Freshman Austin Dubberly (Helena, Ala./Pelham) led the Falcons in RBIs with three as he went 2-for-8 with a double and a run scored.
Senior Nelson Garcia, Jr. (Tampa, Fla./Sickles) was 2-for-6 with a double and an RBI while sophomore Duston Daugherty (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) was 3-for-8 with a double and a run scored. Senior Andy Revell (Albertville, Ala./Albertville) had a homerun and an RBI as he went 2-for-8 at the plate. Sophomore Josh Headley (Gardendale, Ala./Gardendale) picked up an RBI despite going hitless. Senior Cory Luckie (Fairhope, Ala./Fairhope) was the only other Falcon with an RBI as he went 1-for-1 at the plate.
Junior Kyle Butler (Powder Springs, Ga./McEachern) took home the loss in game one as he pitched 3.0 innings while striking out two and walking three. Sophomore Wes Rich (Pelham, Ala./Pelham) took home the second game loss as he went the first 5.0 innings while striking out four and walking six.
The Falcons gave up 12 unanswered runs in the first four innings of game one before they scored their first run in the fifth. UM then scored five runs in the seventh but GSW responded with five runs of their own in the bottom half. The Falcons picked up two more runs in the eighth but that would be all they could plate as they fell 17-8.
In the second game the Hurricanes jumped out to a 9-0 lead before the Falcons scored their lone run in the seventh. A run in the bottom half for GSW ended the scoring with the Hurricanes up 10-1.
The Falcons close out their series with GSW tomorrow, March 7 at 12 p.m.
