Falcons Pick Up an At-Large Bid to the NCAA Tournament

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - For the fifth time in the past seven years the University of Montevallo men's basketball team (23-7) and head coach Danny Young will head to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament. The Falcons earned an at-large bid to the 2010 NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament in Augusta, Ga.
As the No. 7-seed, Montevallo will take on Conference Carolinas champion and No. 2-seed Mount Olive College on Saturday, March 13 at 2:30 p.m. (EST). The winner of the Montevallo and Mount Olive contest will play the winner of the No. 3 GCSU-No. 6 USC Aiken contest in the semifinals on Sunday, March 14.
The Falcons have never faced Mount Olive College in men's basketball. The Falcons hold a 10-2 record in NCAA Regional Tournament competition over the past seven years. UM won the South Region Tournament in 2006 and 2007 and advanced to the finals of the South Region Tournament in 2004 and 2005. This will be the first Southeast Region Tournament for the Falcons in their first year in the region.
Mount Olive (25-5) is making its sixth NCAA II Tournament appearance in the last seven years. After five trips to the East Regional, this year marks the Trojans' first appearance in the Southeast Regional. The Trojans earned an automatic bid after defeating Anderson 83-80 Sunday at Kornegay Arena in the Championship Game of the 2010 Conference Carolinas Tournament.
Ticketing information will be made available later this week.
