Hairston Named Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo men’s basketball head coach Danny Young announced Friday the hiring of Stetson Hairston as his assistant coach. Hairston comes to Montevallo after spending last season as the assistant at Chipola College in Marianna, Florida.

Eighty-Two Montevallo Student-Athletes Named to 2010-11 Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo athletic department had 82 student-athletes named to the 2010-11 Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll. The 82 is an improvement of 17 over the 65 named last year to the Honor Roll from UM. Men’s soccer once again led all Montevallo teams with 18 members being named to the list. Women’s soccer finished in second with 14 while volleyball was third with 13. The Presidential Honor Roll recognizes all student-athletes at the 13 PBC member institutions who had a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the academic year.

Student-Athletes Join Fellow Classmates Helping the Local Community
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo hosted its first The Big Event on Saturday, March 26 to say thank you to the local community. Student-athletes from the University of Montevallo athletic department joined their classmates in the large community service project. The Big Event was founded at Texas A & M University in 1982 as a way to say thank you to the surrounding community. They envisioned a one day service event where students would thank the community that supports them by completing tasks at homes and businesses. The Big Event is now held each year at more than 70 universities across the country.

Falcons Fall in NCAA Southeast Region Semifinals, 82-76
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (19-11) ran out of gas late in the semifinals of the NCAA Southeast Region against Anderson University (20-11) falling, 82-76. The Falcons entered the tournament with the smallest roster, featuring just eight players and that lack of depth caught up with UM late against the Trojans. UM led by as many as 11 points in the second half but the Trojans were able to cut that lead away and eventually build a lead of their own as time ticked away late in the second period. The Falcons were led by junior Ryan Westbrooks (Nashville, Tenn./Hillsboro) who had one of the most impressive performances of the tournament scoring 21 points all of which came from three-point range.

Falcons Advance to the NCAA Southeast Region Semifinals
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (19-10) continued its undefeated run in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. UM is now 6-0 all-time in NCAA First Round games under head coach Danny Young. The Falcons took down Peach Belt Conference foe and No. 3 seed Georgia Southwestern State University (20-9), 62-59 in thrilling fashion. UM was led by junior DeMarcus Catchings (Arlington, Texas/Arlington) who scored a game-high 19 points while grabbing 10 rebounds.

Falcons Headed to Sixth NCAA Tournament
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's basketball team (18-10) is headed to its sixth NCAA Tournament in the past eight seasons this week as they travel to Augusta State University in Augusta, Georgia to take part in the Southeast Region Tournament. The Falcons will face Georgia Southwestern State University (20-8) in the first round.

Davis Named Third Team All-Conference
AIKEN, S.C. – Junior Antoine Davis (Washington, D.C./M.M. Washington) of the University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (18-9) was named Third Team All-Peach Belt Conference. He joins Freddy Little (2008-10), who was selected First Team last season, as the only Falcons to be named to the Peach Belt Conference Men’s Basketball All-Conference teams.

AIKEN, S.C – The No. 5 ranked Augusta State men’s basketball team used a 12-0 run late in the game to break away from the University of Montevallo for a 61-52 victory Saturday night in the semifinal round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament held at USC Aiken’s Convocation Center.

Falcon Free Throws Sink Bobcats, 74-68
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (18-9) saved its best free throw shooting performance for the postseason as the Falcons hit 24-of-26 from the charity stripe in a win over Georgia College (16-10) in the First Round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The Falcons used a late run to take a 74-68 victory over the Bobcats. UM was led by junior Antoine Davis (Washington, D.C./M.M. Washington) who had his first double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. He added a team-high three assists and three steals.

Coleman’s Last Second Three Lifts Falcons, 62-60
COLUMBUS, Ga. – Junior Tyrell Coleman (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown) of the University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (17-9, 10-7 PBC) hit two of the biggest threes of the season late against Columbus State University (11-15, 7-10 PBC) to give the Falcons a 62-60 win and the No. 2 seed in the Peach Belt Conference West Division. Falcons Soar on Senior Night, 76-66
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (16-9, 9-7 PBC) honored two seniors prior to tip off with Georgia College (15-9, 9-7 PBC). Matthew Nelson (Birmingham, Ala./Ramsay) and Ronald Severtsgaard (East Moline, Ill./United Township) were each honored for the effort they have given the Falcon basketball program in their time at UM. The Falcons went on to win over GCSU 76-66 and Severtsgaard had a stellar send-off with 10 points and a season-high 14 rebounds. Sophomore Jonas Brown (Tifton, Ga./Tift County) led the Falcons with 18 points all of which came from three-point land as he nailed six long-range bombs.

Late Run Downs Falcons, 57-52
MORROW, Ga. – The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (15-9, 8-7 PBC) led most of the game but a late spurt by the Lakers of Clayton State University downed the Falcons on the road, 57-52. Both teams struggled offensively throughout the game as the combined to shoot just over 35 percent from the field. The Falcons were led by junior DeMarcus Catchings (Arlington, Texas/Arlington) who scored 14 points and grabbed seven boards. Sophomore Jonas Brown (Tifton, Ga./Tift County) chipped in 12 points and five boards.

Falcons Ranked Seventh in Southeast Region
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (15-8, 8-6 PBC) placed seventh in the most recent NCAA Southeast Region Rankings. The top eight teams from each region advance to the NCAA Tournament at the end of the season. The Falcons were ranked seventh in the region last season when they advanced to the NCAA Regional Final.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (14-7, 7-5 PBC) picked up a much needed win over the University of South Carolina Aiken (13-8, 7-7 PBC), 73-67. UM was paced by junior Jervan Jackson (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands/South Dade) who scored a career-high 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds. The Falcons shot a sizzling 51 percent from the field while out-rebounding the Pacers 34-22.

AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (13-7, 6-5 PBC) ran into the hot-shooting Hurricanes from #18 Georgia Southwestern State University (16-4, 9-2 PBC) Saturday night. GSW downed the Falcons 68-55 as they hit 53.3 percent of their shots from the floor compared to the Falcons 39.6 percentage. UM was led by junior Antoine Davis (Washington, D.C./M.M. Washington) who had 12 points and three steals.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (13-6, 6-4 PBC) picked up a key Peach Belt Conference West Division victory over Columbus State University (8-11, 4-6 PBC), 59-55. Both teams struggled offensively with neither team reaching 40 percent shooting from the field. The Falcons shot just 39.2 percent while the Cougars had a dismal 34.4 percent shooting performance. UM was led by junior DeMarcus Catchings (Arlington, Texas/Arlington) who had his third double-double of the season and second-in-a-row with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Falcons Drop Heartbreaker, 74-70
FLORENCE, S.C. – The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (12-6, 5-4 PBC) dropped a heartbreaker at Francis Marion University (13-5, 6-4 PBC), 74-70. The Falcons trailed the entire game but had a chance to tie the contest with six seconds left. After missing a three point attempt the Falcons collected the offensive rebound and were fouled while shooting a three down 72-69. After making the first free throw the second missed its mark and the Falcons were forced to try and miss the third free throw and get the rebound. UM fouled on the miss which sent the Patriots to the line to seal the game.

PEMBROKE, N.C. – In a back-and-forth game the University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (12-5, 5-3 PBC) made key plays late in the game to take a 67-64 victory on the road at UNC Pembroke (11-7, 4-6 PBC). The Falcons were led by junior Antoine Davis (Washington, D.C./M.M. Washington) who had 17 points, four steals and four rebounds. Junior Tyrell Coleman (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown) chipped in 14 points, five assists and five rebounds. He was also one of two Falcons to hit three three-pointers.

Falcons Fall Short on the Road, 68-64
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Despite only shooting 23 free throws compared to North Georgia College and State University’s (5-11, 2-5 PBC) 45 attempts the University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (11-5, 4-3 PBC) had the ball with eight seconds left in the game and only down by three. After dribbling up the court a miscommunication caused a turnover which sealed the game for the Saints as they hit one of two free throws with just one second left on the clock.

Falcons Clip Bobcats in Overtime, 80-79
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – After trailing almost the entire game the University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (11-4, 4-2 PBC) used a late run to send its Peach Belt Conference contest with Georgia College and State University (9-6, 3-4 PBC) into overtime and then hit key baskets in the extra period to come away with a 80-79 victory. Junior DeMarcus Catchings (Arlington, Texas/Arlington) led the Falcons with a career-high 22 points and eight rebounds. He was nearly perfect from the field as he hit 9-of-11 shots and sunk four of his five free throw attempts.

UM was led by juniors Antoine Davis (Washington, D.C./M.M. Washington) and DeMarcus Catchings (Arlington, Texas/Arlington) who had 15 and 14 points, respectively. MONTEVALLO, Ala. – An Armstrong Atlantic State University (9-5, 3-3 PBC) three-pointer with one second left on the clock in the first overtime period downed the University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (9-4, 2-2 PBC) 67-66. Four seconds earlier the Falcons had hit a three to go up by one but a quick inbound pass and dribble up the floor allowed the Pirates to get an open look from three which Chris Edwards knocked down with 0.9 seconds left on the clock.

Snow Storm Cancels Wednesday's PBC Doubleheader
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Due to a winter storm that came through the North Georgia area on Monday and dropped nearly a foot of snow, Wednesday's basketball doubleheader has been cancelled and will be rescheduled at a later date. The Falcons were scheduled to travel to North Georgia tomorrow (1/12) for their third Peach Belt Conference game of the season.

#19 Falcons Fall in Conference Home Opener, 65-55
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The 19th-ranked University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (8-3, 1-1 PBC) dropped its Peach Belt Conference home opener to Georgia Southwestern (8-3, 1-1 PBC), 65-55. The Falcons once again ran into a hot-shooting team as the Hurricanes hit 75 percent of their shots in the second half to finish with a 51.2 percent shooting percentage for the game. UM hit just 37.5 percent of its shots including 26.9 percent in the first half. Junior’s Antoine Davis (Washington, D.C./M.M. Washington) and Ryan Westbrooks (Nashville, Tenn./Hillsboro) led the team with 13 points each.

#19 Falcons Spear Argonauts, 98-76
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The 19th-ranked University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (8-2) returned to its winning ways with an impressive 98-76 win over the University of West Florida (7-7). The Falcons shot 62.5 percent from the field and put up its highest point total of the season. UM also was nearly perfect from the free throw line while hitting 23-of-26 from the charity stripe good for 88.5 percent. Junior Ryan Westbrooks (Nashville, Tenn./Hillsboro) led the Falcons with 25 points while hitting 9-of-12 shots from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.

#9 Falcons Fall on the Road at #23 Christian Brothers, 73-66
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The ninth-ranked University of Montevallo men's basketball team (7-2) suffered its second loss of the season to 23rd-ranked Christian Brothers University (7-2), 73-66. The game featured 55 fouls including 45 in the second half. Both teams struggled from the free throw line as the Falcons hot 47.8 percent of their shots from the charity stripe while CBU hit 56.4 percent. The Falcons had 23 free throw attempts compared to CBU’s 39.

#12 Falcons Cruise Past St. Augustine’s, 66-47
MORROW, Ga. – The 12th-ranked University of Montevallo men's basketball team (7-1) downed Saint Augustine’s College (1-5), 66-47, in a neutral site contest held at Clayton State University. The Falcons dominated from start to finish as they forced 22 turnovers and held SAC to just 36.2 percent shooting. UM shot 47.2 percent from the field and an outstanding 50 percent from three-point range. UM was led by senior Cecil Coleman (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Bay Tech) who scored 15 points while hitting 6-of-10 shots.

Falcons Move Up Five Spots in NABC National Poll
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (6-0) moved from 10th to fifth in the most recent NABC/Division II men’s basketball rankings. This is the fourth-straight week the Falcons have been ranked in the top-25 and first top-five ranking this season. This is the Falcons highest ranking since Feb. 28, 2006 when they were ranked fourth in the poll.

#5 Falcons Fall to Christian Brothers, 61-55
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The fifth-ranked University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (6-1) suffered its first loss of the season at home to Christian Brothers University (7-2), 61-55. The Buccaneers shot 72.2 percent in the first half including a 7-for-10 mark from behind the three-point line. CBU ended the night with a 64.7 shooting percentage while the Falcons were only able to hit 41.1 percent of their shots. The Falcons were led by redshirt-sophomore Jonas Brown (Tifton, Ga./Tift County) who had a career-high 18 points as he hit 7-of-10 shots from the field including one three-pointer. Brown scored 16 of his points in the second half as the Falcons tried to rally from a 13-point halftime deficit.

Beatty had a team-high 18 points off of five three pointers and a 3-for-4 performance at the free throw line. Davis added 17 points, four assists and four steals. Davis led the team with seven free throws as he went 7-for-10 at the charity stripe.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. The University of Montevallo Athletics Hall of Fame Committee has announced its selections for the class of 2010. The committee welcomes three former student-athletes and one former student who attended the University prior to intercollegiate athletics being offered. All four members of the class of 2010 will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Sunday, October 10 on the campus of the University of Montevallo.
