Falcons Fall on the Road to No. 19 Clayton State, 72-56

MORROW, Ga. - The University of Montevallo women's basketball team (10-6, 3-3 PBC) saw its three-game win streak come to an end as the 19th-ranked Clayton State University Lady Lakers (13-3, 4-2 PBC) handed the visiting Falcons a 72-56 loss. The Falcons were led by junior Shan Jones (Hartselle, Ala./Hartselle) who had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Alex Sanabria (Miami, Fla./Miami) also scored 15 points to support the Falcons effort.
Senior Alicia Lewis (Youngsville, La./Comeaux) had nine points and a team-high seven assists.
UM shot a season-low 27.4 percent from the floor hitting just 20-of-73 shots.
The Falcons opened up the game with a strong 16-8 run over the opening six minutes but the Lakers responded with a 33-6 run over the final 14 minutes of the period to take a 41-22 lead into halftime.
The second half began much like the first with the Falcons taking a 14-5 run over the first four minutes to cut the CSU lead to just 10. Once again the Lakers responded with a 17-5 run over the next seven minutes to reopen a 22-point lead. The Falcons were able to battle back and trim that lead to just 16 as time expired.
The game marked the Falcons third game in five days all of which were on the road. The team has been on the road since last Friday and came away with two key conference wins and a tough loss to a top-25 team.
The Falcons will look to rebound from the loss with a home game this Saturday, Jan. 23 at 1:30 p.m. as they take on Georgia College and State University. The Bobcats are 11-4 on the season and 4-1 in Peach Belt Conference play.
