Falcons Dominate Lady Hurricanes, 70-53
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women's basketball team (11-10, 4-7 PBC) ended its five-game skid by dominating Georgia Southwestern State University (9-12, 4-7 PBC) and avenging an earlier loss, 70-53. The Falcons never trailed in the game and were led by junior Kristen Seigenthaler (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Siegel) who scored a career-high 20 points as she hit four three pointers and was 7-of-11 from the floor.
Senior Alex Sanabria (Miami, Fla./Miami) had 14 points and eight rebounds. She also tied a single-game record at Montevallo by going 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Senior Alicia Lewis (Youngsville, La./Comeaux) had 12 points and nine assists. She was also hot from the free throw line hitting 8-of-10. Junior Carrie Parrott (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Siegel) was one basket away from a double-double with eight points and 10 boards. Senior Manal Cali (Northampton, England/Northampton School for Girls) grabbed eight boards to go along with her six points while junior Tiaren Young (Forestdale, Ala./Minor) had seven boards and three points.
The Falcons never trailed in the game but they kept it close in the early minutes of the game. Up by just two with 6:48 remaining in the first half the Falcons went on a 6-0 run powered by a Seigenthaler three that opened the advantage up to eight. UM's lead continued to hover around the eight mark the rest of the half as they closed out the period up 31-23.
Up five just three minutes into the second half the Falcons began a 9-2 run sparked by a Seigenthaler three to extend their lead to 12. Just a few minutes later and up 13 the Lady Hurricanes began a 9-0 run that cut the Falcons lead to just four but UM responded immediately with a 9-0 run of their own once again featuring a three from Seigenthaler.
UM continued to hold a double-digit lead the rest of the way as the Falcons hit their free throws down the stretch ending the game up 70-53.
The Falcons return to action this Thursday at 4:30 p.m. as they travel to USC Aiken. Aiken is 11-10 overall and 6-6 in the PBC.
