#5 Clayton State Smothers Falcons, 85-50
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball team (8-12, 3-8 PBC) fell to defending National Champions and fifth-ranked Clayton State University (20-2, 10-1 PBC), 85-50. The Falcons shot 45.1 percent from the field but the Clayton State defense forced 27 UM turnovers which converted into a 31-6 advantage in points off turnovers. UM was led by senior Davia Harris (Memphis, Tenn./Three Rivers C.C.) who scored 14 points, grabbed five rebounds and blocked three shots. Junior Zena Nasiloski (Hammond, Ind./Northeast C.C.) chipped in 13 points and six boards while freshman Taylor Beverly (Brandon, Miss./Northwest Rankin) had 12 points and five boards.
UM shot 45.1 percent from the field while CSU hit 47.9 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from three-point range. Both teams struggled from the free throw line shooting just over 50 percent.
CSU jumped out to a quick 14-4 lead in the opening six minutes and never looked back as they cruised to a 45-20 halftime lead. The Falcons had a stronger second half but were unable to cut the lead as they fell in the second half 40-30 for an overall score of 85-50.
The Falcons will return to action this Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 4:30 p.m. as they travel to Peach Belt Conference rival North Georgia College and State University.
