Falcons Finish Sixth at Lady Cougar Collegiate Classic
COLUMBUS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's golf team traveled to Columbus, Georgia to compete in the Lady Cougar Collegiate Classic hosted by Columbus State University. The Falcons finished sixth in the 12-team field. UM was one of five Peach Belt Conference schools in attendance. UNC Pembroke won the event followed by Lander University in second and Shorter College in third.
The Falcons finished two spots ahead of PBC rival North Georgia. UM shot a two round score of 661 just two shots behind fifth-place Tusculum.
Freshman Megan Clyne (Aberdeen, Scotland/Harlaw Academy) led the way for the Falcons finishing tied for eighth overall with a score of 159. Freshman Ashlee Beck (Athens, Ala./Ardmore) was right on her heels as she finished 11th overall with a score of 160. Senior Emma Breen (Swindon, England/Kingsdown) shot a two-round score of 165 good for 23rd overall.
Sophomore Tracey Marshall (Newfields, N.H./Heritage Academy) finished tied for 45th with a score of 177 while sophomore Hilary Shaner (Madison, Ala./Bob Jones) was just one stroke back tied for 50th.
Sophomore Kira Chaudhry (Columbiana, Ala./Shelby County) played as an individual and finished 58th with a score of 184.
Clyne and Beck tied for UM's lowest round of the tournament as they each shot a 79 on day two.
The Falcons will return to action next Monday and Tuesday, March 5-6 as they take part in the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational in Winter Springs, Fla.
