Falcons Fall to No. 18 Armstrong Atlantic, 4-0

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women's soccer team (3-5-1, 0-2-1 PBC) took on No. 18 Armstrong Atlantic State University (9-1-2, 5-0-0 PBC) and fell 4-0 at home. The Falcons battled with the Pirates and created a number of scoring opportunities but AASU came out on top in the end.

The Falcons had seven shots with just two on goal but the game was much closer than the score indicates. The Falcons had a number of scoring opportunities late in the first half and a few in the second half. Freshman Nicola Stolworthy (Belton, England/Cliff Park) led the team in shots with two and had one of the best scoring chances in the match as she got behind the defense for a one-on-one with the keeper but the keeper guessed right and stopped Stolworthy's shot.

Another close call came on a free kick late in the game as senior Erin Duncan (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) blasted one just past the crossbar.

The Pirates got on the board early in the match scoring a goal at the 12:44 mark as Erin Holt kicked in a shot that deflected off the keeper. PBC leading goal scorer Kristin Burton struck next with just 1:01 left in the first half as she took a cross and kicked it past the outstretched keeper.

The second half saw two quick goals by the Pirates to salt the game away as Morgan Mitchell and Erin Holt scored back-to-back goals just 2:30 minutes apart.

Freshman Alyssa Maxwell (Surrey, British Columbia/Semiahmoo) made six saves in goal while picking up the loss.

The Falcons will return to action Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 4:00 p.m. as they travel to Clayton State University for another PBC match-up.
