Eighty-Two Montevallo Student-Athletes Named to 2010-11 Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo athletic department had 82 student-athletes named to the 2010-11 Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll. The 82 is an improvement of 17 over the 65 named last year to the Honor Roll from UM. Men’s soccer once again led all Montevallo teams with 18 members being named to the list. Women’s soccer finished in second with 14 while volleyball was third with 13. The Presidential Honor Roll recognizes all student-athletes at the 13 PBC member institutions who had a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the academic year.

Student-Athletes Join Fellow Classmates Helping the Local Community
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo hosted its first The Big Event on Saturday, March 26 to say thank you to the local community. Student-athletes from the University of Montevallo athletic department joined their classmates in the large community service project. The Big Event was founded at Texas A & M University in 1982 as a way to say thank you to the surrounding community. They envisioned a one day service event where students would thank the community that supports them by completing tasks at homes and businesses. The Big Event is now held each year at more than 70 universities across the country.

Three Falcons Named Senior Elite Winners
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Three University of Montevallo senior athletes were named recipients of the UM Senior Elite Awards. Senior Elite is a prestigious honor, generally bestowed upon a graduating senior with the highest GPA in his or her particular field of study. They are typically a department’s most-outstanding student. Baseball player Josh Dabbs (Hueytown, Ala./Hueytown), women’s golfer Emily Gibson (Toronto, Canada/North Toronto Collegiate) and women’s soccer player Alex Terhar (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) were among the 31 award winners.

Two Falcons Named to PBC All-Conference Second Team
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (6-11-2) was awarded two spots on the Peach Belt Conference All-Conference Second Team. Freshman Christine Prince (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering) and freshman Asgerdur Palsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Verzlunarskoli Islands) were named to the PBC All-Conference Second Team.

Four Falcons Honored by the PBC
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (6-11-2) was awarded one spot on the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Team while three players were given an Honorable Mention. Senior Alex Terhar (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) was named to the PBC All-Academic Team while junior Denise Mannion (Manchester, England/Stockport), sophomore Alyssa Maxwell (White Rock, British Columbia/Semiahmoo) and sophomore Paige Scott (Denman Island, British Columbia/Reynolds) were given honorable mention.

Falcons Fall in PBC Tournament, 2-0
PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team’s (6-11-2) 2010 season came to a close this evening as the Falcons fell to UNC Pembroke (15-2-2) in the opening round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. UM fell by a score of 2-0 but played a very even match with the Braves. UNCP out-shot the Falcons 18-15 but UM won the shots on goal battle 5-3. Junior Denise Mannion (Manchester, England/Stockport) led the team in shots with four including one on goal.

Falcons Declaw Bobcats, 1-0
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (6-10-2, 4-5-1 PBC) secured its fourth Peach Belt Conference victory of the season with a 1-0 win over visiting Georgia College and State University (7-7-2, 4-4-2 PBC). With the win the Falcons moved into sixth-place in the PBC and will take on UNC Pembroke, the third-seed, in the first round of tournament play this Tuesday. The match will be played at Pembroke at 7 p.m. (EST).

#11 Columbus State Outlasts Falcons, 4-2
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (5-10-2, 3-5-1 PBC) fell in a tough 4-2 match to #11 Columbus State University (15-1-1, 8-1-0 PBC). The Falcons played one of their best matches of the season but a few key plays allowed the Cougars to take the victory on Varsity Field. UM’s two goals came from freshmen Christine Prince (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering) and Asgerdur Palsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Verzlunarskoli Islands).

Women’s Soccer Match Postponed
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer match originally scheduled for this evening at 6 p.m. against Columbus State University has been moved to tomorrow, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. due to unplayable field conditions. Come out and support the Falcons as they play their second to last home match of the season tomorrow night against #11 Columbus State University.

Women’s Soccer Goes Pink for the Cure
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team turned Varsity Field pink this past Saturday in an effort to raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer. The Falcons sold pink shirts for the fans to wear at the game and honored a few breast cancer survivors at halftime of the game. The biggest part of the day was a luncheon held after the match for all the players to interact with the fans as well as those who were honored at halftime.

Kerr Powers UM Past Lander, 3-1
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (5-9-2, 3-4-1 PBC) picked up a key Peach Belt Conference victory over Lander University (8-6-1, 3-5-1 PBC) this afternoon. Freshman Taylor Kerr (Birmingham, Ala./Vestavia Hills) powered the UM offense as she scored two of the Falcons goals including the game-winner. UM won by an impressive 3-1 score and moved themselves into the sixth position in the PBC standings.

Falcons to Host Think Pink Event on Saturday
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the University of Montevallo women’s soccer team is doing their part to increase awareness across campus and in the community by hosting a fundraising event. Think Pink will be the theme of this Saturday’s (10/23) match against Lander University. All spectators are encouraged to wear pink to visually show their support for breast cancer awareness to the match. The women’s soccer team will also be taking the field in pink jerseys.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (4-9-2) dropped a tough 3-1 decision to the University of North Alabama (13-2-0) at home. The Falcons lone goal came from freshman Christine Prince (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering) who scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Scott Scores Two as Falcons Calm Hurricanes, 2-0
AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (4-8-2, 2-4-1 PBC) won its second Peach Belt Conference match of the year over Georgia Southwestern State University (2-11-0, 0-7-0 PBC), 2-0. Sophomore Paige Scott (Denman Island, British Columbia/Reynolds) scored both of the Falcons goals including the first which came just 2:34 into the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Maxwell (White Rock, British Columbia/Semiahmoo) picked up her second shutout of the season as she made three saves.

Falcons Fall to #18 West Florida, 7-1
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (3-8-2) fell to No. 18 University of West Florida (10-2-0), 7-1. The Falcons struggled to get their offense rolling as the managed just nine shots compared to the Argos 27. UM’s lone goal of the game came of a penalty kick from freshman Asgerdur Palsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Verzlunarskoli Islands) who scored her fourth goal of the season.

Falcons Tie Aiken on the Road, 2-2
AIKEN, S.C. – Despite playing down two players due to a pair of red cards for the entire 20 minutes of overtime, the University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (3-7-2, 1-4-1 PBC) picked up a 2-2 tie at the University of South Carolina Aiken (2-8-1, 0-5-1 PBC). The Falcons had five yellow cards called against them including two on a pair of players who were sent off in the 79th and 83rd minute of the game.

Falcons Find Offensive Spark against Lakers
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (3-7-1, 1-4 PBC) picked up its first Peach Belt Conference victory of the season as the Falcons defeated the Lakers from Clayton State University (3-6-0, 1-4-0 PBC), 4-1. UM scored a season-high four goals as four different players picked up goals in the match. Freshman Asgerdur Palsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Verzlunarskoli Islands) scored the game-winning goal just 16:33 into the first half.

No. 9 Armstrong Atlantic Downs Falcons, 4-1
SAVANNAH, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (2-7-1, 0-4 PBC) fell on the road at ninth-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University (7-0-2, 5-0 PBC), 4-1. The Falcons fell behind early as the Pirates scored their first goal just 46 seconds into the game. UM’s lone goal of the match came off the foot of freshman Christine Prince (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering) with just over five minutes to play in the match.

Falcons Battle Wolves to 2-2 Tie
CARROLLTON, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (2-6-1) battled for 110 minutes and came away with a 2-2 tie at the University of West Georgia (2-6-1). The Falcons were led by freshman Taylor Kerr (Birmingham, Ala./Vestavia Hills) who scored a goal and dished out an assist.

Lady Braves Down Falcons, 1-0
PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (2-6, 0-3 PBC) dropped a hard fought match with UNC Pembroke (6-1-1, 2-1 PBC) on the road, 1-0. Freshman Kaitlin Thomas (Okotous, Alberta/Foothills Composite) made her first start in goal for the Falcons as she stopped three shots while allowing just one goal.

Falcons Fall in Overtime, 1-0
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (2-5) fell 1-0 in overtime to Christian Brothers University (4-2) on the road. Both teams defenses held the opponents quiet as both teams combined for just six shots on goal. UM was led by sophomore Paige Scott (Denman Island, British Columbia/Reynolds) who had four shots including two on goal.

Falcons Fall to North Georgia, 4-0
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (2-4, 0-2 PBC) dropped its second Peach Belt Conference match of the season to North Georgia College and State University (5-1, 2-0 PBC), 4-0. The Falcons had 10 shots including six on goal. Junior Denise Mannion (Manchester, England/Stockport) led the team with two shots both of which were on goal.

Two Second Half Goals Lift Falcons over Lady Chargers, 2-1
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (2-3) used a pair of second half goals to win against the University of Alabama in Huntsville (2-2). UM trailed 1-0 at halftime but an own goal by the Lady Chargers and a late goal by freshman Asgerdur Palsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Verzlunarskoli Islands) gave the Falcons the much needed victory.

Falcons Drop First PBC Contest of the Season, 3-1
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (1-3, 0-1 PBC) dropped its first Peach Belt Conference match of the year at home against Flagler College (2-2, 1-0 PBC), 3-1. The Falcons and Saints played a close first half but the Saints scored three goals in the second half to take home the victory.

Falcons Fall in Double Overtime, 1-0
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – For the second-straight match the University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (1-2) fell in double-overtime to a team from Montgomery. The Falcons traveled to Auburn University-Montgomery (4-1) and fell 1-0. For the third-straight game Falcon goalkeeper Alyssa Maxwell (White Rock, British Columbia/Semiahmoo) kept the opponent scoreless for 90 minutes. Unfortunately the Falcons were unable to find the back of the net during the first 90 minutes and were forced to head into overtime.

Prince Propels Falcons to Victory
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Freshman Christine Prince (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering) of the University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (1-0) came of the bench midway through the first half and provided the spark the Falcons needed to defeat Eckerd College (0-1) at home, 1-0. Prince’s efforts paid off early in the second half as sophomore Paige Scott (Denman Island, British Columbia/Reynolds) blasted a shot off the keeper from just inside the 18-yard box. Prince picked up the rebound and snuck it past the outstretched keeper for her first career goal as a Falcon.

Four Former Falcons Named to the GSC All-Time Women’s Soccer Team
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Four former Falcons from the University of Montevallo women’s soccer team were named to the Gulf South Conference All-Time Women’s Soccer Team. Stacey Balaam (2005-08) and Adele Jackson (2005-08) were named First Team All-Time while Adrianne Peters (1999-02) was named Second Team and Corey Gros (2005-08) was given an Honorable Mention.
