MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's soccer team (2-5, 0-2 PBC) fell in its second Peach Belt Conference match of the year 4-0 to Georgia College and State University (2-5, 1-0 PBC) on the road. The Falcons had nine shots in the game including six on goal but they were unable to break through the GCSU defense.
GCSU got the scoring started just 3:13 into the game as Jamie Colcord blasted a shot that was deflected in by Abby Dalton to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. Twenty-three minutes later Ashley Veilleux scored on a rebound to increase the lead to two.
The half would end with the Bobcats up 2-0. GCSU out-shot the Falcons 13-4 in the half. Sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlin Thomas (Calgary, Alberta/Foothills Composite) made four saves while her Bobcat counterpart made two saves.
The Bobcats would not score for most of the second half but with less then nine minutes to play in the game Veilleux scored another goal to increase the lead to three. After a goalie switch which allowed junior Alyssa Maxwell (Surrey, British Columbia/Semiahmoo) to enter the game for the Falcons, GCSU scored one more goal with less then two minutes to play to end the game with a 4-0 advantage.
GCSU out-shot the Falcons 10-5 in the half with Thomas making five more saves to increase her total to nine on the evening.
Sophomore Taylor Kerr (Birmingham, Ala./Vestavia Hills) and freshmen Octavia Saunders (Westward Ho, England/Filton College) and Emma Greenwood (Sheffield, England/Dronfield Henry Fanshawe) led the Falcons with two shots each.
The Falcons will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. as they host undefeated and 16th-ranked North Georgia College and State University.
