Mark McGuigan enters his third season as head coach of the University of Montevallo tennis team. He became the first full-time tennis coach in the program’s history in the summer of 2010.
The Falcons improved their win total by two in 2012 as UM finished with a 6-17 mark. UM won four of its first eight matches and continued to improve under the leadership of coach McGuigan.
In 2011, he helped guide the Falcons to back-to-back wins to start the season and a 4-19 record.
McGuigan came to Montevallo after serving as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s tennis programs at the University of West Florida for three seasons. He helped coach the Argonauts to the NCAA Tournament all three years as an assistant. In 2008 the UWF women’s program was a National Quarterfinalist while the men were National Semifinalists. In 2009 the men and women were Regional Finalist while the women won the Gulf South Conference. In 2010 the men were Regional Semifinalist and the women were Regional Finalists.
McGuigan played four years at UWF and was part of two National Championship teams. In 2004 and 2005 his team won the NCAA Division II National Championship. He also was part of two GSC Championship teams in 2005 and 2006. In 2006 and 2007 his team advanced to the National Semifinals of Division II.
He is a 2008 graduate of the University of West Florida where he received a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education.
