MONTEVALLO, Ala - The 2020 season did not end the way anyone thought that it would. The Montevallo men's golf team had just completed their third tournament of the spring before COVID-19 pandemic cancelled all sports remaining in the spring semester.
The Falcons had a good 2019-2020 campaign overall. The team had finishes of 2nd, 16th, 3rd, and 4th in the fall before the Christmas break. The men had finishes of T9, 11th, and 15th in their three events with three more events remaining before the Gulf South Conference Championships in the spring which would have been held in Mobile, Alabama.
Â
The Falcons had started to gain a lot of momentum in the spring before they were sent home. "It was tough because we literally just got back from the Valdosta men's event and three days later our players were gone and school was closed", said head coach
Justin Pratt. It was an extremely hard time for the players in the midst of their schedule. "While dealing with all the uncertainty, our players handled it with class and managed to have an incredible semester in the classroom". The men's golf team finished the year with a team GPA of 3.305.

The men's golf program will lose seniors
Brett Batchelor,
Charles Wood, and
Luke Wilson heading into the 2020-2021 season. All three seniors saw significant time on the golf course throughout the year.
Luke Wilson, of Cullman, Alabama, carried a 73.25 scoring average in 16 rounds of action.
Charles Wood, of Spanish Fort, Alabama held a strong 74.58 scoring average in 17 tournament rounds.
Brett Batchelor, of Madison, Alabama, carried a 76.6 scoring average in 12 rounds of action for the Falcons.
"You go through all the emotions when the season ends and months after you still feel those same emotions for everyone including how this pandemic has affected so many people in so many different ways. I thought our seniors handled it incredibly well and they were all gearing up for an end of the season run and to finish strong at the conference championships."Â However, the Falcons are bringing in some fresh new faces. "I am hoping that the culture of hard work and desire to compete to your best ability that these seniors helped instill will help our returners and incoming players continue the momentum and expectations we have." Coach Pratt is excited about the class that they are bringing in. "We will have a new look to our team next year but I am excited to see who comes in ready to play and who has improved their mental games and scoring averages over the summer", said Coach Pratt.
Â
While it was a tough time for the men's golf team on and off the golf course, they held strong in their emotions and fought through adversity. The Falcons will carry their momentum throughout the summer into the 2020-2021 season as they make their run for a Gulf South Conference Championship.
