MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo family is mourning the passing of A. J. Luke, a sophomore student-athlete on the Montevallo men's basketball team.

A.J. enrolled as a student at the University of Montevallo in the fall of 2016. The Birmingham, Alabama native graduated from Ramsay High School in the spring of 2016.

A.J. played in 16 games for the Falcons in his career, starting in four of the five contests this season.

Details related to the cause of death are unknown at this time. Counselors will be on hand at the Robert M. McChesney Student Activity Center upon the team's return to campus this afternoon.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of our men's basketball student-athlete A.J. Luke," said Montevallo Athletic Director Mark Richard. "A.J. was a charismatic young man and was well liked by his coaches, teammates, friends and family. We ask for everyone to keep the Luke family in your prayers."
