CBU scores early and earns the 1-0 win

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – In a non-conference matchup, Christian Brothers University earned a road victory over the University of Montevallo men's soccer team, scoring early on a free kick and winning by the final margin of 1-0.

The free kick was given after a Falcon yellow card. Diego Silva Vieira was able to slice the ball through all of the commotion in the box and slip it past Montevallo keeper Yannic Horn for the goal at 18:35.

It was Silva Vieira's first goal of the season.

Christian Brothers would not get another shot on goal in the first half, while Montevallo was able to put three shots on net, all of which were saved by Britton McGuire. McGuire came into the game with a goals against average of 0.74.

The Falcons also had three corner kicks in the first half, compared to just one for the Buccaneers.

In the second half, Montevallo pressure and possession allowed for opportunities to even up the score, but they were unable to put anything past McGuire and the Buccaneers' defense.

Christian Brothers is now 11-2 on the season after the win at Varsity Field.

The Falcons will play their final non-conference game of the season on Friday, October 25. The UAH Chargers will make the trip south for a 4:30 start time.
