MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The 22nd ranked team in the country came into Varsity Field on Friday night to play the University of Montevallo Falcons in an intrastate men's soccer clash. The UAH Chargers and the Falcons each struck once, and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
The first half saw few shots and only one corner kick per side, but Montevallo was able to make one of their shots count, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Freshman Srdjan Dujkovic put one past Michael Winstone on a left-footed strike after being set up in the box by Sergio Gonzalez. It was the third goal of the year for Dujkovic and the first assist for Gonzalez.
In the first half, the Falcons outshot the Chargers 5-2.
Just three and a half minutes into the second frame, UAH evened things up after a beautiful pass from Leo De Smedt found Bailey Oliver in the dead center of the box. Oliver gave Yannic Horn no chance to save it, burying the ball in the upper left corner and tying up the contest.
It was the first career goal for Oliver, a freshman from Huntsville.
For the rest of regulation and both overtime periods, each time would have quality looks to go ahead, but the two goalkeepers, each with impressive statistics this season, stood tall, and the 1-1 score held up until the final buzzer.
Dujkovic and Gonzalez led the Falcons in shots, each attempting five and each putting two on net. Senior Alex Morton also took three shots, while Josh Keller took two.
Horn had nine saves in the game.
Montevallo will take a week off before playing their final regular season match of the 2014 season. They will host Young Harris on Saturday, November 1.
