MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's soccer team squared off with Spring Hill College in a non-conference match between Peach Belt and Gulf South foes. In the game, Montevallo had goals from Srdjan Dujkovic and Kyle Stuller and walked away with a 2-0 win.
The Falcons (3-1-2) started the game at a methodical pace, not recording their first shot attempt until 19:46 mark, but were able to get consistent pressure.
At 31:55, Montevallo broke through after a beautiful piece of passing by Jeffrey Hessenberger, who had gotten the ball from Ahmet Brown. Hessenberger found Dujkovic, who was able to bury the ball in the bottom left corner of the net after the keeper, Jacob Files, had been drawn out of net by the Falcon attack.
The goal was Dujkovic's second of the season. He scored the first goal of the year for Montevallo in the opener against Delta State. After his goal, Dujkovic was second on the team in points with six, trailing Hessenberger, who was up to nine points after his third assist of the season.
Montevallo maintained their 1-0 lead through the remainder of the first half.
Dujkovic and Hessenberger would not be done collecting points on the evening, helping the Falcons add an insurance goal. Hessenberger was able to get it back out to Stuller, who recorded his first points of the season on an impressive strike. The assists were Dujkovic's and Hessenberger's seventh and tenth point of the year, respectively.
The final score of the contest had the Falcons defeating the Badgers, 2-0.
Despite multiple good looks, Spring Hill was never able to get a ball past freshman goalkeeper Yannic Horn. Horn had seven saves on the night.
Montevallo will return to Peach Belt action this Saturday, with a home match against Francis Marion. It is a rematch of last year's Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship Game.
That game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
