MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's soccer team defeated Shorter by six goals on Friday night to give Coach
Bruce Dietterle his biggest conference win in his time at the helm.
The Falcons improved to 6-3-2 on the season and 3-1-2 in conference play.
The quality of play was improved from Sunday's tie at Christian Brothers and the Falcons recorded their most emphatic victory of the season.
After a frantic back and forth start, the game was an even affair until the 28
th minute when a nice exchange of passes between Nicolas Pekel and
Liam Moore set
Lukas Hauer up on the right side of the goal. Hauer's cross found
Josh Keller wide open on the far left post and the senior converted his second goal in two games to take a 1-0 lead.
Montevallo doubled their advantage nine minutes later through a similar silky passing move.
Isaac Albaradei beat the offside trap and his shot was palmed away into the path of
Lukas Hauer who scored his 5
th goal of the season.
Shorter mustered a response in the second half and almost halved the deficit right after the restart. Felix Guijosa's goal-bound effort was blocked by center back
Austin Petrovich before the follow up was stopped by
Robert Kuta.
Cesare Marconi punished the Hawk's missed opportunities with a third goal to effectively ended the contest.
After dominating the rest of the second half, a late flurry of goals saw Montevallo swell the scoreline.
Patrick Morton headed in a
Kai Pham cross off the underside of the crossbar and over the line. Then Albaradei unleashed a thunderous curling strike into the top right corner.
Liam Moore capped off the superb performance by rounding the keeper and slotting into an empty net after being put through by a ball from substitute
Nikola Klacar.

GAME NOTES
- After last season's game featured 10 yellow cards and a sending off, today's clash only had one yellow. The only booking was a card in the final seconds to Albaradei for not respecting the required 10 yards on a free kick.
- Montevallo's defense earned a 6th shutout of the season. Kuta's six shutouts and 69 saves are both Gulf South Conference highs.
- The game saw both teams attempt a double-digit number of shots for the second straight season. Today's contest featured 20 shots for Montevallo and 12 by Shorter, including 13 and 8 on goal.
- Montevallo's six-goal margin of victory was the highest for the Falcons since 2013. Bruce Dietterle's first season opened with a 6-0 win over Eckerd which was matched by today's performance. It was the largest conference victory for Montevallo since 2004 when the Falcons beat Delta State by the same scoreline.
