HOW IT HAPPENED
The Flacons and the Mountain Lions met in the Gulf South Conference Women's Lacrosse Invitational. Young Harris cruised to a 20-7 victory over the Falcons after a huge first half that saw the Falcons held to just three goals.
Montevallo hung with the top-seeded Mountain Lions for most of the first half. After a pair of Young Harris goals, the Falcon got on the board with a goal of their own. Meghan Shea made it a 2-1 game on an unassisted goal.
Young Harris tried to get a scoring run going but every time they did, the Falcons' Jami Hudak put an end to it with a Montevallo goal. Hudak was assisted by Janey Johnson and Jessica Culver on her two first half goals.
With 11 minutes remaining in the first half, Young Harris led the Falcons 7-3. The Mountain Lions strung together seven straight goals to take a 14-3 lead into halftime.
Hudak scored her third goal of the game at the start of the second half and finished off the hat trick.Â
The second half was more competitive as the Falcons held Young Harris to just six goals in the half. Montevallo netted four goals that came from Hudak, Culver, Lara Schuetz, and Georgi Griffin.
Today's semifinal loss marks the end of the 2017 season for the Falcons who finished the season with an 8-10 record.
