MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's soccer team fell to nationally-ranked University of West Florida 1-0 in the Gulf South Conference Tournament championship match Nov. 4 at Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex.
Elizabeth Vickers scored the game-winning goal in the 63rd minute for the Argonauts, who are ranked No. 2 nationally in the latest United Soccer Coaches Association NCAA Division II poll and improved to 20-0 on the season.
The Falcons (10-7-3) finished the 2018 campaign with four wins in its final six matches, posting a 4-1-1 mark while scoring 10 goals and allowing just two goals.
Montevallo knocked off two nationally-ranked teams during the season, which saw the Falcons advance to the Gulf South Conference Tournament championship match for the first time in a decade.

HOW IT HAPPENED
30' | Freshman Annie Mason survived an aggressive start by West Florida, registering four saves in the first 30 minutes while also defending five corner kick opportunities by the Argonauts.
44' | Junior Tylor Ring got the Falcons' first look at a scoring opportunity before the West Florida goalkeeper made a save to keep the match scoreless at the half.
63' | Elizabeth Vickers fired a shot off an assist from Jessica Quixley past the outstretched hands of Mason and into the net to give West Florida its long goal in the match.
63' | Freshman Medhali Hernandez fired a direct attempt following a foul in the box, but the Argonauts' defense was able to clear it away.
70' | Hernandez fired another direct shot after a foul deep in the corner and two additional touches by the Falcons appeared to help the ball cross the line but Montevallo was whistled for a foul, waiving off the scoring opportunity.
