Falcons Fall to Tennessee Wesleyan 15-13

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's lacrosse team was defeated by the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs 15-13 at home on Wednesday evening.

The Falcons got off to a slow start in the game as the Bulldogs jumped out to an early 10-4 lead in the first half of play.

Montevallo flipped the game around in the second half as they came out of the locker room and went on a seven-goal run that spanned the second half's first 15 minutes of play.  Nicole Pahnke scored a hat trick during the run in the second half, while Janey Johnson contributed two goals.  In all four different found goal during their seven-goal stretch.

Montevallo scored their final goal of the game with 4:26 remaining in the game to cut it to a 14-13 advantage for the Bulldogs. 

Tennessee Wesleyan scored the final goal of the game with 3:08 left to play to seal up the victory for the Bulldogs.


KEY GOALS

1' | Jami Hudak scored the opening goal for the Falcons.  Hudak was assisted on the goal by Nicole Pahnke.

35' | Janey Johnson found her first of two goals of a pass from Jami Hudak to start a seven-goal run for the Falcons.

45' | Julia Atkinson capped off a seven-goal run by the Falcons to tie the game at 11-11.  Jami Hudak was credited with an assist on the goal.

57' | Tennessee Wesleyan scored the final goal of the game to seal up the 15-13 victory.


GAME NOTES

·         Montevallo took 27 shots in tonight's game and was outshot by the Bulldogs 20-10 in the opening half.  In the second half, the Falcons held a 17-15 shot advantage over Tennessee Wesleyan.

·         In a game that was the tale of two halves, Montevallo was the better team in the second half.  Defensively, the Falcons grabbed 16 ground balls in the second half to bring their total to 25 in the game.

·         Irfana Ahmed and Kay Tirrell both saw time in goal for the Falcons.  Ahmed played 43 minutes and Tirrell saw 16 minutes of playing time in goal.  Combined, the two Montevallo goalies saved 13 shots with Ahmed stopping eight and Tirrell stopping five.
