MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's lacrosse team defeated visiting Kalamazoo College 15-13 in a non-conference match March 22.
The Falcons overcame a one-goal deficit in the second half, outscoring the Hornets 4-1 in the final 17 minutes of the contest to secure the win.
Freshman Nicole Pahnke became the leading scorer nationally in NCAA Division II after scoring her 59th goal of the season with 12:11 remaining in the match. Pahnke led Montevallo (6-6) with a career-high 13 points after scoring six goals and assisting on seven others.
Junior Jami Hudak scored five goals for the Falcons in the victory.
Junior Georgi Griffin and sophomore Janey Johnson, who finished with four assists, each led the team with five ground balls in the contest.
Junior Irfana Ahmed led Montevallo with nine saves while minding the net for the final 44:03.
KEY GOALS
1st (22:39) | Junior Jami Hudak scored her third goal early in the match off an assist from sophomore Janey Johnson to give the Falcons a 5-2 lead.
1st (15:55) | Freshman Nicole Pahnke scored her second goal in the match off another assist from Johnson to give Montevallo a 7-4 advantage.
1st (1:25) | Freshman Natalie Dicken scored her first goal in the contest late in the first half to help the Falcons carry a 10-8 advantage into the break at halftime.
2nd (18:17) | Rachal Madar scored an unassisted goal to cap a 4-1 scoring run to open the second half by Kalamazoo and give the Hornets a 12-11 lead.
2nd (16:40) | Pahnke scored the second of three consecutive goals scored by the freshman to give the Falcons the lead for good midwy through the second half.
2nd (12:11) | Pahnke's final tally in the contest gave her the most goals scored by a NCAA Division II player this season.
GAME NOTES
- The Falcons held a slim 36-32 advantage in shots in the contest.
- Montevallo also held a small margin in ground balls with a 27-24 edge.
- Kalamazoo controlled 18 draws in the match compared to 12 controlled by the Falcons.
