Falcons fall to Young Harris 25-6 in GSC Tournament semifinals

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The University of Montevallo women's lacrosse team fell to host Young Harris College 25-6 in the semifinals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament in their final match of the season April 27.

Freshman Nicole Pahnke led the Falcons (8-9) with two goals and one assist in the match. Pahnke led Montevallo this season with 78 goals, which placed her among the top scorers nationally in NCAA Division II.

Sophomore Janey Johnson contributed one goal and two assists in the match. Junior Jami Hudak, along with freshmen Caleigh Spoon and Erin Tosh, finished with one goal each for the Falcons.

KEY GOALS

1st (25:28) | Hayley Bartlett scored her second goal early in the match to help Young Harris race out to a 6-0 lead.

1st (24:57) | Junior Jami Hudak scored the Falcons' first goal in the contest off an assist from freshman Nicole Pahnke.

1st (23:47) | Pahnke scored her first goal in the match off an assist from sophomore Janey Johnson, which trimmed the deficit to 8-2 at the time.

1st (6:00) | Rachel Lepine scored an unassisted goal to cap a 10-0 run by the Mountain Lions midway through the first half.

1st (4:49) | Pahnke scored her final goal in the match off an assist from Johnson, which accounted for the Falcons' final goal in the first half.

2nd (27:59) | Freshman Caleigh Spoon scored the Falcons' first goal of the second half.

2nd (10:51) | Johnson scored an unassisted goal midway through the second half.

2nd (1:46) | Freshman Erin Tosh scored the Falcons' final goal in the contest with just under two minutes remaining.


GAME NOTES

  • Young Harris outshot the Falcons 32-14 in the match, including a 28-10 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Mountain Lions held a slim 14-10 advantage in ground balls in the match.
  • The Falcons successfully cleared just three of eight attempts, while the Mountain Lions cleared 12 of 16 attempts.
