Falcons' Championship Season Ends in NCAA First Round

JACKSON, Miss. – Fourth-seed University of Montevallo was unable to complete a second-half rally Friday afternoon in the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer South Region Tournament, falling to Nova Southeastern, 2-1, at Belhaven University. The tournament, hosted by Mississippi College, was originally scheduled to be played at Hinds Community College but was relocated to Belhaven's synthetic turf field and pushed back 1.5 hours due to weather.

The NSU Sharks took a 2-0 lead in the first half. Montevallo struck early in the second half to make it a 2-1 game. In the 50th minute, Junior forward Allye Darnell struck a pass from Michaila Franklin into the top right corner of the net for the Falcons' 50th goal of the season.

Efforts to equalize in the final 40 minutes of action were halted by the Sharks' midfield and defense. Natalie Robayna, who split time in goal for NSU, had two saves in the second half.

Montevallo had a few chances late. Samara Lino's shot with 1:34 to play missed high. Darnell won the ball for UM with 28 seconds left and raced down the right sideline to cross the ball into the box, but Roayna collected it.
