CLINTON, Miss. – Mississippi College scored three goals in just more than three minutes midway through the second half to break open a scoreless match leading to a 5-1 loss ffor Montevallo in a Gulf South Conference men's soccer matchup at Arrow Field Sunday.
The crucial stretch started in the 66th minute, when a Montevallo player was called for a foul in the penalty area, giving Mississippi College a penalty kick. Aurele Chemin converted the kick at 65:49 to give MC a 1-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, Marco Sellan sent a shot into the top right corner of the net off an Owen Connelly assist to double the Choctaws' lead. The outburst ended at 68:53 when Connelly scored his own goal on a shot in the lower left corner of the net.
Mississippi College added a tally in the 77th minute, when Victor Bazan converted a penalty kick of his own, and Bazan closed out the Choctaws' scoring at 80:43 with another goal, his fourth tally of the season.
The Falcons netted their goal in the 90th minute and it came from Luke Garner, who scored off an assist from Vladik Margolin. It was Buckley's second goal of the season and Margolin now has a team-leading 10 points (four goals, two assists) for Montevallo.
Prior to MC's offensive explosion, neither team was able to find a goal in the opening 45 minutes, but the Choctaws had the run of play for the majority of the half. MC outshot Montevallo, 10-1, including 4-1 on shots on goal. Mississippi College also had all five corner kicks in the first half, which was a physical affair, with each team being whistled for 10 fouls.
