JACKSON, Tenn. – The University of Montevallo saw its season come to an end Saturday with a 5-2 loss to Union in a Gulf South Conference match at the Smith Soccer Complex.
Union (8-7, 5-6) raced out to a 3-0 lead early in the second half before Montevallo (6-9-2, 4-6-1) scored twice to try and get back into the match. First,
Nemanja Acimovic scored off a
Ruben Carvalho assist at 64:45 and just less than three minutes later,
Luke Garner netted a goal off an assist from Acimovic.
With 22-plus minutes still to go, the Falcons pressed forward in search of an equalizer or even a winner and the points that would allow them to qualify for the GSC Tournament. However, the Bulldogs were able to weather the storm and added a pair of insurance goals in the final three minutes to pull away and punch their ticket to the postseason.
