Falcons fall to UAH in Gulf South Conference Tournament semifinals

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's lacrosse team fell to UAH 21-4 in the Gulf South Conference Tournament semifinals April 26.
Freshman Anja Kuys scored two goals and recorded one assist to lead the Falcons, who finished the season with a 6-10 overall record and a 3-5 mark in Gulf South Conference play.
Senior Georgi Griffin and junior Meghan Shea added one goal each. Junior Janey Johnson contributed two assists.
Senior Irfana Ahmed registered 10 saves in the contest.

KEY GOALS

1st (29:18) | Freshman Anja Kuys scored the game's first goal off an assist from junior Janey Johnson in the first minute of the contest to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
1st (23:38) | UAH answered with three goals of its own, the last by Karissa Glover off an assist from Megan Hartnett, to give the Chargers a 3-1 lead.
1st (18:48) | Junior Meghan Shea scored a goal off an assist from Kuys to help the Falcons trim the deficit to 3-2.
2nd (26:40) | Nicole Federovitch scored an unassisted goal early in the second half to cap a 12-0 scoring run by the Chargers.
2nd (24:26) | Kuys scored the Falcons' third goal of the contest unassisted.
2nd (10:49) | Senior Georgi Griffin scored a goal off an assist from Johnson on an extra-man opportunity to cap the scoring for the Falcons.
 
GAME NOTES
  • The Chargers outshot the Falcons 38-8, including a 33-7 edge in shots on goal.
  • Montevallo finished with 25 turnovers, compared to 13 turnovers by the Chargers.
  • UAH successfully cleared 10-of-12 attempts, while the Falcons cleared 5-of-11 attempts.
  • The Chargers finished with a 26-10 advantage in ground balls and controlled 14 draws compared to 13 draws controlled by Montevallo.
