MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Montevallo women's lacrosse team took care of business at home with a 18-17 victory over GSC foe Young Harris, Sunday at the Lacrosse Stadium. This win marks the first GSC win of the year as well as the first time in program history the Falcons were able to experience a win against the Mountain Lions. With the win UM advances to 7-3 with a 1-2 conference record.
The Falcons brought the intensity in the beginning stages of the game. YHC was the first to light up the scoreboard but UM soon followed with four straight goals. The Falcons were consistently dominant on offense in the first half, outscoring the Mountain Lions 13-3 before the halftime break.
Young Harris turned the tables in the second half with their offensive aggressiveness. The Mountain Lions chipped away at the Falcon lead all the way to the very end when a missed shot attempt in the final seconds secured the UM victory 18-17 over YHC.
Anja Kuys led the Falcons netting seven goals with a 100% shooting percentage, along with six draw controls, four ground balls, two caused turnovers and two assists.
Caleigh Spoon had a big day for UM as she also netted every shot she attempted with five goals two draw controls and a ground ball.
Rylee Horton added four goals with a ground ball.
Sadie Bopst (G, 3 A, 2 GB) and
Brianna Shepler (G, 3 GB) added a goal each to UM's 18.
Ashley Shen led the Falcons defensive unit securing four ground balls with two caused turnovers and a draw control.
UP NEXT: The Falcons will conclude the regular season against Lander on Friday, April 16th, with the first draw set for 7:00 PM.
