MONTEVALLO - Montevallo men's soccer saw its offense click, as the Falcons defeated Saint Leo 4-1 Friday night at Varsity Field. With the victory UM sits on a 2-0-1 record with the Lions falling to 0-2-1.
"Full credit to Nemanja tonight for playing one of his best games he's ever played here, I think it shows the confidence and the growth of wearing the armband and taking over leadership. We threw a lot of young guys into the fire today and they did really well for us down the stretch. I'm really proud of this group and its going to be interesting to see how we develop throughout the year," said head coach
Bruce Dietterle.
Montevalllo's offense began to take off towards the end of the first half when
Salvador Plaza sent the ball towards Fausto Castillio who took advantage of a Saint Leo goalie mishap for the first goal of the game.
The Falcons generated positive momentum from the goal, putting the pressure on the Lions defense that culminated in senior forward
Nemanja Acimovic scoring his first goal of the season to give UM a 2-0 advantage.
Acimovic was a key factor in the Falcons next goal as he played a ball for
Edorta Cabieces Sanz to put in Montevallo's third goal. Montevallo kept rolling on offense as
Fabio Menzel found
Nemanja Acimovic for his second goal of the game.
The Falcons out shot Saint Leo 11-8 with eight shots on goal.
UP NEXT: Montevallo will head to South Carolina for a match up against Newberry College with kickoff set for Sunday September 12th at 5:00 pm.
