Box Score JACKSON, TENN - The Falcons won their third consecutive match, shutting out Union University 2-0 on the road Sunday. With the win, UM improved to 6-1-1 and 3-1 in the Gulf South Conference, while Union slipped to 4-2-2 and 1-2-1. The win was not only the Falcons third straight, but fifth in the last six games. It also kept the Falcons within a game of league-leading Lee University who is sitting atop the standings at 4-0.
Senior midfielder
Edin Hernandez had a pair of assists in the game. He now leads the team with three on the season. His first assist was to sophomore midfielder
Sam Mitchell, who put the Falcons on the board in the 39th minute with his first goal of the season.Â
The score remained that way until
Martin Chladek scored off of Hernandez' second assist in the 74th minute to give UM a 2-0 lead. It was Chladek's second goal of the season, putting him in a five-way tie for the team lead. Hernandez is also a part of that group. His goals and assists has him in the top spot for the Falcons with seven points.
On defense, the Falcons were suffocating, allowing seven shots, only three on target. Falcons keeper Salvadore Plaza stopped all three shots to preserve the shutout. Meanwhile, the Falcons took 22 shots, 10 on-goal.
Next up: The Falcons will be on the road on Wednesday, traveling to Dahlonega, Ga. for a non-conference match against the University of North Georgia. The next home game for the Falcons is on Friday, Oct. 8 in another GSC doubleheader against Spring Hill College.
