MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's soccer heads to the Memphis, Tenn. area to take on GSC foes Union and Christian Brothers on the final road trip of the regular season.
So Far This Season…
The Falcons struggled in the early going with a 1-4 record heading into conference play where the Falcons opened with a 3-1 win over Shorter on Sept. 22. The Falcons then dropped two in a row against Lee and West Alabama before drawing with Alabama Huntsville on Oct. 1. Two weeks ago, Montevallo fell to West Florida before taking its second draw of the season against Spring Hill, 1-1. In its last outing, Montevallo fell to Auburn Montgomery on Oct. 13. The Falcons are currently one game out of the final GSC tournament seed behind this weekend's opponents Christian Brothers.
Scouting Union: WATCH | LIVE STATS
Union enters the weekend with a 1-6-1 record in league-play with a 3-7-2 mark overall. In the non-conference, Union began the season with a 2-1-1 record before falling to AUM in the GSC-opener. UU added its first GSC on Sept. 22 against Delta State before skidding for three games against Mississippi College, CBU and West Alabama. Union then drew with Alabama Huntsville, 2-2, before falling to Spring Hill and West Florida over this past weekend. The Bulldog attack is led by Stan De Vries' four goals and nine points with three other Bulldogs finding multiple goals so far this year. The Union backline is led by senior goalkeeper Botond Nemeth with a 1.78 goals against average and a 3-5-1 record in net.
Scouting Christian Brothers: WATCH | LIVE STATS
Christian Brothers heads into the weekend with a 2-3-2 conference record and a 5-3-4 mark overall. The Bucs kicked off the season with an unbeaten 3-0-2 record in non-conference play with wins over Harding, Ouachita Baptist and Central Baptist before started the GSC schedule with a 2-0 loss to Mississippi College. CBU defeated Union before taking back-to-back draws with Delta State and Alabama Huntsville. The Bucs fell in consecutive contests against West Alabama and West Florida before defeating Spring Hill 3-1 in the most recent outing. CBU boasts a well-balanced attack with 11 players finding a goal led by three goals from Felipe Arteaga and Ruben Neubauer.
Series History Against Union:
The two sides have met just five times since 2017 with Montevallo holding a slight edge in the series with a 3-2 record over the Bulldogs. The series began with a 1-0 Montevallo victory in 2017 before Union rattled off back-to-back wins in 2018 and 2019. The series took a short hiatus in 2020 before the Falcons one each of the last two match ups with Montevallo taking a dominant 6-0 win on Sept. 18, 2022.
Series History Against Christian Brothers:
Since 2005, Montevallo and CBU ha`ve met on the pitch a total of 15 times with the Falcons holding a 10-4-1 record against the Bucs. The series began with five-straight Falcon victories from 2005 to 2010. The Bucs managed to take three-consecutive matchups in 2011, 2014, and 2015. The Falcons have gone 5-1-1 against CBU since 2016 with the lone UM loss coming in 2018. Each of the last two seasons, Montevallo has taken the game 1-0.
