MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's soccer is slated for matchups with No. 13 Mississippi College and Delta State on Varsity Field for the final weekend of the regular season.
So Far This Season…
Montevallo started the season with a 1-4 record in the non-conference schedule before the Falcons kicked off the conference slate with a 3-1 win over Shorter. Montevallo fell to Lee and West Alabama before picking up a point in the league table with a 0-0 draw at Alabama Huntsville. Following a loss to West Florida, Montevallo added another tie with a 1-1 draw against Spring Hill on Oct. 3. The Falcons rebounded from a 3-1 loss at Auburn Montgomery with a 2-1 win on the road at Union. In its most recent outing, Montevallo fell, 1-0, on the road at Christian Brothers on Oct. 22. Montevallo heads into the final regular season weekend just two points out of the final Gulf South Tournament seed.

Mississippi College enters the weekend with an 11-1-2 overall record and a 7-0-2 conference slate as the No. 13 team in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll. In non-conference action, the Choctaws posted a 5-1 record with the lone loss coming against Harding on Sept. 8. In its GSC competition, MC opened with a draw against West Florida before rattling off four wins over Christian Brothers, Spring Hill, Union and Delta State. The Choctaws drew with West Alabama before taking victories over UAH, Shorter and most recently Lee. MC's attack is lead by Max Buesch with 10 goals and four assists for a total of 24 points while Cole Turner heads the MC goalkeeping corps with a 6-1-2 record and three clean sheets.

Delta State comes into central Alabama with a 4-7-3 overall record and a 2-4-3 record in conference play. The Statesmen posted a 2-2 record in the non-conference schedule with wins over Oachita Baptist and Harding. Much like the Falcons, DSU has had its share of struggles during the conference slate. Delta State opened league play with a loss to Spring Hill before tying with West Florida. The Statesmen fell in consecutive contests to Union and Mississippi College before pulling out a 1-1 draw with Christian Brothers. DSU lost to Alabama Huntsville on Oct. 13 before drawing with West Alabama on Oct. 15. The Statesmen boast back-to-back wins in the last week with wins over Lee and most recently Shorter. DSU's frontline is led by Arturo Riestra and James Lynch who have each put up five goals this season.
Series History Against Mississippi College:
Since 2017, both sides are locked in a dead even tie with each team holding a 2-2-1 record against each other. The series began with a 1-1 draw back in 2017 before the Falcons took the first win of the series. Mississippi College would take back-to-back matchups in 2019 and 2021. A season ago, the Falcons topped MC 5-2 on the road on Sept. 11, 2022.
Series History Against Delta State:
Montevallo holds an unbeaten 13-0 record over the Statesmen since the series began in 2004. The series began with two Falcon blowout victories in 2004 and 2005 before DSU scored its first series goal in 2006. The Falcons have held Delta State to two-or-less goals in every matchup in the series. Most recently, Montevallo defeated Delta State 2-1 on Oct. 25, 2022.
