MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's soccer is slated to host West Florida and Spring Hill for the second-to-last homestand of the 2023 season.
 
So Far This Season…
The Falcons struggled through the early going of the season, not grabbing the first win until Sept. 13 with a 2-1 victory over Newberry. With a 1-4 record heading into conference play, the Falcons opened GSC competition with a 3-1 road win over Shorter. The Falcons then fell in back-to-back matchups with Lee and West Alabama on Sept. 24 and Sept. 29, respectively. Montevallo bounced back from a 3-0 loss to UWA with a 0-0 draw at Alabama Huntsville with a score that did not reflect the impressive UM performance.

West Florida enters the matchup as the No. 6 team in the United Soccer Coaches South Region poll after posting a 4-1-2 overall record and a 1-1-2 mark in league play. In non-conference action, the Argos defeated Sunshine State Conference members Tampa and Saint Leo before entering GSC play with back-to-back ties with Mississippi College and Delta State. UWF picked up its first league win against Shorter on Sept. 29 after defeating Pensacola Christian 11-0 on Sept. 21. Most recently, West Florida took its only loss of the season against Lee on Sunday, Oct. 1. The Argos two-headed attack is headlined by Jack Patching and Josiah Fontenot, each with five goals on the season.

Spring Hill enters the weekend with a two-point advantage over the Falcons in the league table after posting a 2-3 league record and a 3-7-1 overall mark. Much like the Falcons, the Badgers struggled in the early going with a 1-4 record heading into GSC action. SHC kicked off GSC play with a 2-1 win over Delta State before falling in three-consecutive matches against Mississippi College, West Alabama and Lee. Spring Hill added another league win with a 5-1 win over Shorter on Oct. 1. Most recently, the Badgers drew with Pensacola Christian, 0-0, on Oct. 3.
 
Series History Against West Florida:
The Falcons and the Argos have met 15 times since 2005 with the Argos holding a 9-5-1 advantage in the series. West Florida owned the first five matchups with a 5-0 record against the Falcons until Montevallo defeated the Argos 2-0 in 2008. Since then, the two sides have spilt every matchup with a 4-4-1 record for both squads in that time. Back on Oct. 2, 2022, the Falcons battled but eventually fell to UWF, 2-1.
 
Series History Against Spring Hill:
The Falcons hold a .750 win percentage over the Badgers since 2004 with an 8-4 record. Montevallo took each of the first six meetings with the Falcons allowing just two Badger goals. Spring Hill managed consecutive victories over UM in 2017 and 2018 before the Falcons rebounded with a 2-0 win in 2019. In 2021, SHC won both games against the Falcons with Montevallo taking the most recent matchup, 3-2, on Sept. 30, 2022.
 
Player Highlights:
Montevallo's attack comes from multiple directions with eight difference Falcons in the scoring column. Sophomore midfielder Branko Buljan Ivelich's two goals headline the UM offense while Brock Barbee, Joshua Owens, and Julio Rojo each have scored a goal and added an assist.
