FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo turned in a successful day at the Georgia Open in Franklin Springs, Georgia, Sunday.
In the tournament, Montevallo competed in open brackets of all weight classes against wrestlers ranging from freshmen to seniors.
The Falcons finished the day with seven top-10 placers.
Chad Strickland turned in the best day for the Falcons as he finished third in the 141 open category and posted a 4-1 record on the day. After winning the first and second-round matches by decision, Strickland dropped the semifinal match. In the consolation semifinal, the Wetumpka, Alabama native defeated Isaiah Olivie from Mount Olive by decision, 9-4, before winning the third-place match by forfeit.
Jeffery Tubbs posted the most wins of any Falcon on the day as he went 5-1 in the 184 open. After winning in rounds one and two, Tubbs dropped a quarterfinal matchup. He went on to win three straight consolation bracket matches to finish fifth. His win in the fifth-place match was a pin over fellow Falcons
Savian Graham.

Individual Highlights
- Freshman Colt Brown placed seventh in the 125 open bracket and scored 11.5 team-points. He finished the open with a 4-2 record and earned a tech fall win over Southeastern's Blaine Jones in the seventh-place match.
- Freshman Chad Strickland placed third in the 141 open bracket as he posted a 4-1 record in the tournament. He advanced to the third-place match with a 9-4 decision win over Isaiah Olive from Mount Olive and won by forfeit.
- Aiden Knight went 4-3 on the day in the 174 open bracket as he won four straight matches and finished eighth.
- Derek Hussey placed sixth in the 174 open. He went 4-2 on the day.
- Savian Graham placed sixth in the 184 open. He won four matches in a row and finished at 4-2 on the day. He dropped the fifth-place match to teammate Jeffery Tubbs.
- Jeffery Tubbs placed fifth in the 184 open. He went 5-1 on the day and totaled two major decision wins.
- Carson Freeman went 4-2 on the day with two tech falls and two pins in the 165 open. He placed eighth.
