MANHEIM, Penn. – The University of Montevallo wrestling team continues to make history throughout the inaugural season, as the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association top-25 rankings feature the Falcons at No. 22 – the highest ranking in program history.

In just the first year of competition, the Falcons are 2-2 in dual action and have featured several placers and three individual champions throughout their tournament competitions.
UM received votes in the first edition of the rankings before climbing to No. 22 this week. The NWCA rank passes the team's No. 24 ranking by OpenMat.com.

Individually, Gabe Hixenbaugh is ranked No. 1 by the NWCA in the 133-weight class after moving up from No. 10.

The NWCA rankings are referred to as a Tournament Power Index ranking and are not based on a team's dual win/loss record. Points for ranking positions are awarded to teams based on individual rankings. With Hixenbaugh earning a No. 1 ranking in his respective weight class, the Falcons have earned 20 points toward the overall team ranking.

The Falcons are one of four Conference Carolina schools to be ranked or receive votes in the poll.

UM will return to action on Jan. 1o against Emory & Henry and Bluefield State in Emory, Virgina.
