Montevallo, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women's lacrosse team's six first quarter goals led to a big win on senior night.
Â
The first quarter started with a Young Harris goal but was quickly followed by four goals from the Falcons.
Anja Kuys started the falcons' hunt for the back of the net with a goal at the 9:41 mark.
Jodi Morawiec added to the falconry with 8:30 left. Less than a minute went by before
Kiley Shea scored her first goal, which was followed by another from
Mikaela Barbieri at the 5:36 mark. A Mountain Lion goal was scored before Barbieri added two more points, with assists to
Lily McCormick and
Anja Kuys, with 2:52 and 1:53 on the clock in the first period. One more goal was scored by Young Harris, placing the score at 6-3.
Â
Morawiec put the ball into the net for the second time in the first three minutes of the second period, which was quickly followed by the Mountain Lions' only goal of the quarter. The next goal of the game wasn't for another nine minutes, until Shea burst back onto the scene with her second goal at the 2:10 mark and Kuys linked up with Barbieri for her second goal with 0:41 before half time. This grew the Falcons' lead to 9-4.
Â
The five goal lead was questioned by Young Harris, as they scored two goals out of the break, but was quickly answered by Barbieri's third goal of the game, after Shea found her with the assist. A Mountain Lion goal with 7:37 to play put the game back within three goals, but in the final two minutes of the period, Morawiec and Barbieri both added a goal of their own, keeping the lead at five and pushing the score to 12-7.
Â
Much like the third quarter, the fourth started with two goals from Young Harris. Good defense from the Falcons for the remainder of the period meant these were the only goals for the visiting team. McCormick found Barbieri for her fifth goal of the game with 3:51 to go in the game, before
Jenna Piazza finished off the Falcons' season with a goal of her own, cementing the score at 14-9.
