Weekend Preview: Men's Soccer

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's soccer is set to begin conference-play with a two-game road trip over the coming weekend.
 
So Far This Season…
Montevallo has had its fair share of struggles through the five-game non-conference schedule, coming out with 1-4 record. The Falcons opened the season with a heartbreaking loss to Emmanuel College on Aug. 31. Montevallo then took back-to-back losses at the hands of Clayton State and North Georgia before the Falcons broke into the win column with a 2-1 defeat of Newberry on Sept. 13. In the Falcons' last outing, Montevallo fell to old rival Lander on Sept. 16.
 
Scouting Shorter: WATCH | LIVE STATS
The Hawks have started the season with a 1-5 record with two conference games under the belt. Shorter began the season with three-straight losses to King, Trevecca Nazarene and Georgia Southwestern before grabbing its first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Emmanuel College. In Shorter's two conference games, the Hawks fell to Alabama Huntsville, 4-0, on Sept. 15 before falling to West Alabama, 8-1, in the last outing. Shorter's attack is spearheaded by Miguel Souza, who has tallied three goals on the season and a total of seven points.
 
Scouting Lee: WATCH | LIVE STATS
Lee enters the matchup with a 3-2-1 overall record and a 0-1-1 record in conference play. The Flames kicked off the season with three-straight wins over North Georgia, Chowan and North Greenville. Lee is winless in its last three outings, falling to Lincoln Memorial on Sept. 9 before taking a 1-1 draw with West Alabama on Sept. 15. In its last outing, Lee fell to Alabama Huntsville, 2-1, on Sept. 17. Eamon McLaughlin leads the Flames offense with a team-high four goals on eight shots on goal.
 
Series History Against Shorter:
Since rejoining the league in 2016-17, Montevallo holds a 5-2 record over the Hawks with Montevallo taking the latest meeting, 3-0, on Sept. 23. The Falcons restarted the series with three-straight wins over Shorter in 2016-18 before Shorter took back-to-back matchups in 2019 and 2020. Most recently, Montevallo have taken each of the last two meetings with the most recent match going to Montevallo with a score of 3-0.
 
Series History Against Lee:
From 2015 to 2022, Montevallo's record against the Flames comes in at 1-2-3 with Montevallo taking the most recent contest, 2-0, on Oct. 14, 2022. In the two meetings prior, the sides took two ties in 2021 and 2019. In the first three matches, Montevallo fell in two with the Falcons posting a 2-2 tie in 2017.

Branko Buljan Ivelich commands the Falcons' offense with a team-high two goals and four points. The sophomore transfer has fired ten total shots with four shots on goal. Joshua Owens, Julio Rojo, Alvaro Martin Lopez, and Michael Milliron each have recorded one goal on the season.
