No. 22 Falcons Take on No. 25 Reinhardt Friday

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo wrestling travels to Waleska, Georgia, this week for a midweek dual against Reinhardt on Friday at 5 p.m.
 
Montevallo's dual with Reinhardt, originally scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 17, was postponed to Jan. 19 due to weather.


The Falcons enter the non-conference matchup 4-2 on the year in duals and have currently won two in a row.
 
Following last week's wins over Emory & Henry and Bluefield State, Montevallo moved up to No. 8 in the Super Region II rankings and earned three ranked wrestlers, No. 1 Gabe Hixenbaugh (133), No. 5 Derek Hussey (165), and No. 6 Aiden Knight (174). The Falcons are also ranked No. 23 by OpenMat.com and No. 22 by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. Hixenbaugh is ranked No. 1 in both polls.

Last Time Out

The Falcons dominated in both of their Conference Carolinas duals last week. Montevallo earned its most dual points of the year against Bluefield State with 46, winning 46-9. The Falcons then defeated Emory & Henry 40-3. Trent Gilham earned two fall victories on the night.

No. 22/23 Montevallo enters the road trip 4-2 overall on the year and 3-2 in Conference Carolinas. With the conference record, UM is tied for first in the West Division at 2-0, with four in-division dual matches on the horizon. The inaugural Conference Carolina Wrestling Championships will take place in February and will feature the top two teams from the East and West Divisions.
Before jumping back into conference play next week, the Falcons will face Reinhardt in their second-to-last non-conference dual of the year.
 

 
No. 1 Gabe Hixenbaugh and Colt Brown each lead Montevallo with 17 wins each. Hixenbaugh, 17-0 overall, is 6-0 versus ranked opponents this year while Brown leads the team with 10 tech falls in his 17 total wins.
 
Freshman and Alabaster, Alabama native Carson Freeman has notched 14 wins this year and holds an impressive team-leading 6-0 record in dual matches. He has accrued 27 total dual points for Montevallo this year.
 
Jeffery Tubbs enters the dual third on the team in wins with 15 overall, including two in dual action. The Alabaster, Alabama native is just behind Freeman with 22 dual points so far.
 
Derek Hussey, ranked No. 5 at 165 in Super Region II is tied with Freeman for fourth on the team in wins with 14. He is 3-1 in dual matches.
 
Aiden Knight is ranked No. 6 at 174 in Super Region II with 12 wins on the year. He has earned 12 dual points with pins in each of his two dual victories and is tied for the team lead with five pins overall.
 
Springville, Alabama native Trent Gilham enters the week's dual on a two-match win streak and is tied with Knight for the team lead in pins at five. He recorded two pins in last week's dual wins.
 

Scouting Reinhardt

Reinhardt, 7-2 overall, enters the dual ranked No. 25 in NAIA by Openmat.com and features four ranked wrestlers. Angel Banda is ranked No. 11 in 125, Dawson Bates is No. 15 in 149, and Trevor Burdick and Devin Griffen are No. 13 and No. 19 in 157.
 
Reinhardt is coming off a loss to Life 31-7 but won three consecutive duals beforehand.
