Falcons Host Shorter in First Ever Home Conference Carolinas Dual

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo wrestling team hosts the Shorter Hawks in the first Conference Carolinas home dual in program history on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 7:00 p.m. inside Central State Bank Arena.
 
Last Time Out
In their previous dual on Jan. 7, the Falcons split against King and Lincoln Memorial. Montevallo fell to King in the opener, 9-35, but defeated Lincoln Memorial in the night cap as they scored the most points in program history as they won 49-6. Colt Brown was the lone Falcon to go 2-0 in the duals as he won 7-4 in his first bout and by forfeit in his second.

About Montevallo
The Falcons enter Tuesday's dual with a 3-3 dual record including a 2-3 record inside the Conference Carolinas. They sit in fourth place in the west division of the conference standings. Montevallo will look to make it 3-0 inside Central State Bank Arena as they took care of Huntingdon on Nov. 15, 35-9, and last season in their home debut against Midway, 27-16.
 
Colt Brown will set the tone for the Falcons as he will compete in the 125-weight class. Brown enters with a 6-0 dual record in the 2024-25 season. The Lakeland, Florida native is currently 15-5 including nine wins by decision and is one of three Falcons to start every dual in the same weight class.
 
Carson Freeman and Nick Dempsey picked up tech fall wins in the dual against Lincoln Memorial. Freeman is tied for first on the team as he earned the tech fall against Randy Bucsok, 19-4 in 4:42. Dempsey earned his win as he dominated Julian Smith, 17-2 in 2:28. Freeman leads UM with 17 wins on the season while Dempsey is tied for second with 16.
 
Scouting Shorter
The Shorter Hawks come into Tuesday's dual with a 1-0 record on the season as they defeated Emory and Henry on Thursday, Jan. 9, 29-24.
 
Riley Davis, who has wrestled at 174 and 184, had a fifth-place finish at the Pembroke Open where he won three bouts including a decision, a major decision and a fall (6:30). Davis was victorious against Emory and Henry where he won in a 12-7 decision. In a total of five opens this season, Davis is their only placer.
