MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo wrestling team continues their Conference Carolinas dual slate with match ups against Emory & Henry and Bluefield State on Tuesday, Jan. 21 inside Ned E. Shott Gym. The Falcons will take on Emory & Henry at 4:00 p.m. CT and Bluefield State at 6:00 p.m. CT on the campus of Bluefield State.
Last Time Out
In their previous dual, the Falcons earned their first shutout in program history as they defeated Shorter 50-0. The win would also be Montevallo's first home Conference Carolinas dual win in program history. In the victory, the Falcons picked up three tech falls, two pins, two major decisions and a decision. The Hawks forfeited two weight classes.

About Montevallo
Colt Brown enters Tuesday's duals with a 16-5 record on the season including a 7-0 record in dual bouts. Brown comes in as the 20
th ranked 125 in the latest rankings by theopenmat.com. The Lakeland, Florida native leads UM with nine decision wins on the season and he has won 32 points for the Falcons in duals. He has the teams longest current winning streak at three.
Montevallo has outscored their opponents a combined 99-6 in their last two duals. The Falcons have a chance to move into second place in the Conference Carolinas West Division with a pair of wins.
Carson Freeman leads the Falcons with 18 wins this season including a team-leading seven tech falls. Freeman is also tied for second on the team with four wins by pin this season with his fastest coming in 1:26.
UM was able to handle both Emory & Henry and Bluefield State last season. The Falcons downed the Wasps 40-3 and won against BSU 46-9. The wins would be the Falcons two highest point totals of the 2023-24 season.
Scouting Emory & Henry
The Wasps are seeking their first win of the season as they come in with an 0-8 record including 0-6 inside the Conference Carolinas. In their most recent dual, they were defeated by Lincoln Memorial 24-29. In the dual, Emory & Henry picked up four victories. Sebastian Gabarrete was the Wasps top performer as he picked up a fall in 2:10 in the 174-weight class.
Emory & Henry competed at the Wasps Men's Open Tournament on Jan. 18 where they had three placers. In the 157-weight class, Zane Perkins had a second-place finish which including a 12-10 decision and a fall in 1:34. Orlando Hernandez placed in third for the 125-weight class. Hernandez picked up a pin in 4:29 for his lone win of the tournament. Sebastian Gabarrete took fourth in the 165/174 weight class which included five wins in the tournament.
Scouting Bluefield State
Bluefield State comes in with a 3-6 record including 0-4 inside the CC. In their most recent dual, they fell to King 10-48. The Big Blues picked up two wins as Larry Rhodes won by a 15-5 major decision in the 125 and Moses Eads defeated Jamarius Koshko as he pinned Koshko in 4:57.
BSU was impressive this weekend at the Wasps Men's Open Tournament as they recorded three first-place finishers. Larry Rhodes won the 125-weight class with three wins with an 11-0 major decision, a 19-0 tech fall and a pin in 2:22. Enrique Sanchez took first in the 141/149-weight class including four wins. Sanchez had three wins by fall, two of which were under a minute. Their final first-place finisher was Kairyn Hall who won the 157-weight class. Hall went 3-0 with three pins.
