MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's soccer team used a trio of goal scorers to earn a dominant 4-0 victory over Spring Hill on Friday evening, as the Falcons remain unbeaten in Gulf South Conference play.
The Falcons got to work early with a pair of shots from
Alexander Mueller and
Benjamin Williams.
Dominic Kienzle finally found the back of the net for UM in the fifth minute, as his ninth goal of the season gave the Falcons a 1-0 advantage.
Kienzle continued to push, firing a pair of shots in the next few minutes before Spring Hill responded with its first shot. The Badgers shot attempt was on target, but
Andre Etcheverry kept Spring Hill off the board with his first save of the game. Kienzle continued to impact the game, as he found
Benjamin Williams who scored his first goal as a Falcon in the 13
th minute to put Montevallo ahead 2-0. The Falcons added one more goal in the first half, as
Ian Palma found
Tomas Prieto who recorded his third goal of the season in the 37
th minute, extending the lead to 3-0. The Falcons took the commanding 3-0 advantage into the break.
Kienzle continued to push through the second half, firing a shot on goal in the 60
th minute. Four minutes later, a costly yellow card by the Badger keeper in the box would give the Falcons a chance at a fourth goal. Prieto's penalty kick would be saved by the SHC keeper, but the ball landed back in front of Prieto's and he found Kienzle who secured a brace and his tenth goal of the season, extending the lead to 4-0 in the 64
th minute.
The Badgers looked to respond, with a shot on goal in the 69
th minute, but a team save kept the Badgers off the board. Spring Hill fired one more shot on goal in the 82
nd minute, but Etcheverry's second save of the contest preserved the shutout, as the Falcons ultimately took home the 4-0 victory.
