Falcons Head to Indianapolis for the Greyhound Duals and Open

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo wrestling team is set for a trio of duals as they compete in the Greyhound Duals hosted by the University of Indianapolis on Saturday, Feb. 8. They will take on No. 7 McKendree, Quincy and No. 23 UIndy. The following day they will compete in the Greyhound Open on Sunday, Feb. 9.
 
Last Time Out
Montevallo is coming off a 28-17 victory over Emmanuel which they won seven bouts. Savian Graham and Noah Smith picked up tech fall wins while Carson Freeman won his sixth fall of the season. Freeman leads the team with 22 wins this season. UM will face many ranked opponents as the team has a combined five ranked wins in the 2024-25 season.

About Montevallo
The Falcons will look to make some noise this weekend as they take on two ranked teams and multiple ranked individuals throughout the duals and open. Carson Freeman has been outstanding for the Falcons this season as he leads the team with 22 wins, seven tech falls and six pins with his fastest coming in 1:26. Freeman also leads the team with nine dual bout victories.
 
Jeffery Tubbs has been on a roll in dual bouts as he won his last six out of seven. He is 16-12 on the season and is second on the team with eight dual wins. Tubbs has seven wins via decision. Kaden Brown moves into second on the team with 19 wins as he defeated Emmanuel's Isiah Davis in a 5-1 decision. Brown is tied for second on the team with six wins by tech fall.
 
Scouting The Opponents
McKendree comes in at seventh in the National Wrestling Coaches Association. The Bearcats will showcase the No. 3 ranked 141, Ronan Schuelke, the No. 7 ranked 149, Joey Semerad, the No. 7 ranked 165, Cory Peterson, the No. 7 ranked 174, Matt Ortiz, the No. 11 ranked 184, Zeke Waltz, the No. 3 ranked 197, Logan Kvien and the No. 11 ranked heavy weight, Tyler Haynes.
 
Indianapolis checks in at 23rd in the NWCA polls with one ranked wrestler. Derek Blubaugh is the No. 1 197 in NCAA Division II. Blubaugh has 12 wins on the season including three pins, five tech falls, two major decisions and two decisions. UIndy picked up a ranked win this season as they defeated No. 25 Maryville 26-9.
 
The Hawks will come into the Greyhound Duals 6-6 and winless in the GLVC at 0-5. Quincy has lost to UIndy and McKendree this season. In their previous dual, they were defeated by No. 7 McKendree but won two bouts. In the 133-weight class, Anthony Bernardo picked up the win by a 10-3 decision. The other win was in the 157-weight class when Easton Norris won a high-scoring bout 15-13.
