INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Montevallo wrestling team competed at the Greyhound Duals, Saturday, Feb. 8, in Indianapolis and faced a pair of nationally-ranked teams.
The Falcons opened the day with narrow defeat, 19-17 to Quincy. In the dual, Montevallo combined for two major decisions but came up just short in the end.
Next, against No. 7 McKendree, Montevallo held a late lead, but the Bearcats were too much in the end, defeating UM 26-20.
In the final dual of the day, UM faced another ranked opponent, No. 23 UIndy, and fell 50-0.

Jake Chisolm each earned two wins on the day.

Montevallo battled hard with Quincy, in the first dual of the day but came up just short, 19-17. The Falcons fell behind early, 4-0, after a major decision for the Hawks in the 125 bout.
Noah Smith responded for UM, however, with his 13
th win of the year, defeating Issac Bourge by decision 7-4. Smith's win moved him to 13-8 on the season.
Quincy turned in wins in the next two bouts by tech fall and decision to extend their lead to nine, 12-3.
Carson Freeman began a string of four consecutive Falcon wins as he topped Hunter Vernon in the 157 bout by decision, 4-2. The win gave the Alabaster, Alabama native his team-leading 23
rd win of the season moving his record to 23-11.
Jake Chisolm, ranked No. 17, made his return to the mat in the 165 matchup and was victorious with an 11-2 major decision over Jackson Jones. Chisolm's four points cut the Quincy lead to two, 12-10.
Next up,
Aiden Knight put the Falcons on top in the dual, 14-12 as he took blanked the Hawks' Aaron Taylor, 11-0, in his fifth major decision win of the season.
In a tightly contested matchup in the 184-weight class,
Savian Graham came out on top with a 9-8 win by decision to push UM's lead to five, 17-12.
In the final two bouts, Quincy grabbed a decision and a major decision to defeat the Falcons, 19-17.
Individual Highlights
- Noah Smith (13-8) notched his 13th win of the season as he topped Quincy's Issac Bourge by decision 7-4.
- In the 157 bout, Carson Freeman (23-11) recorded his team-leading 23rd win of the season in a narrow 4-2 win by decision over Hunter Vernon.
- No. 17 Jake Chisolm (15-6) added a major decision victory in the 165 match, 11-2, over Jackson Jones.
- Aiden Knight (12-12) turned in a 11-0 major decision victory for his 12th win and fifth major.
- Savian Graham (14-5) fought off Callan Ivy with a 9-8 decision in the 184 bout.

Against No. 7 McKendree, the Falcons fell behind early on and trailed 9-0 after the first two bouts. Montevallo battled back, however, looking for the programs first ranked win but came up just short, 26-0.
Chad Strickland opened the scoring for the Falcons in the 141 bout as he turned in a fall in 4:19 over Dylan Boyd, earning six points.
In the 149 bout, McKendree extended their lead to 14-6 with a tech fall.
UM responded in the next two weight classes and jumped in front of McKendree, 17-14, following impressive performances from Freeman and Chisolm.
Freeman moved to 2-0 on the day and notched his 24
th win of the season with a dominant 16-1 tech fall over Luke Kemper in the 157 bout.
Next, Chisolm pushed UM ahead as he added six points with a pin over Christian Pfeeiffer-Laguerre in 3:54.
Over the next three bouts, the Bearcats compiled 13 points to regain the lead, 27-17.
In the final bout,
Willie Cox added three points with a narrow 11-10 decision.
An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was issued to McKendree, making the final score 26-20.
