MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's lacrosse closed the 2025 season with an 18-11 loss to Lander on Senior Day.
 
Lander jumped out to a 2-0 lead early before the Falcons' defense settled into rhythm. Both sides held the other scoreless over eight minutes before the Lady Bearcats scored back-to-back goals to take a four-goal lead. Lander ended the first with another pair of goals to take a 6-0 lead over Montevallo into the second.
 
Following a MacKenzie Griffin save to open the second, Carsyn Tinney broke the ice for UM with an assist from senior Amber Lynch. Just two minutes later, Ellery Shearer scored the first free-position goal of the day for the Falcons to trim the lead down to 6-2. Griffin added another save before Mikaela Barbieri brought the Falcons back within three with 8:28 left in the half. Lander ended UM's run with a pair of goals, but Claire Withington answered at the 5:26 mark to make the score 8-4. Shearer tallied back-to-back goals before Claire Withington scored a woman-down goal with just 13 seconds left to head into the half with UM trailing 8-7.
 
Lander opened the second half scoring, but Shearer continued her strong outing with her fourth and fifth goals of the day to tie the game at 9-9 with 12:38 on the clock. The Lady Bearcats would regain control with a 4-0 run to hold a 13-9 lead with 6:10 to play. Shearer's explosive afternoon saw a sixth goal from the sophomore at the 5:35 mark of the third to bring the Falcons within three. With 1:21 left on the clock, senior Jenna Piazza scored her first goal of the game to head into the fourth with Montevallo trailing by just two.
 
Lander increased its lead to 14-11 with an early fourth quarter goal before Griffin added another pair of saves to her record. The Lady Bearcats would score four straight to take an 18-11 lead with 4:49 left to play. The Falcons couldn't make up the difference and ended the season with an 18-11 loss to No. 22 Lander.
