Falcons Fall to UAH on the Road

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Montevallo women's lacrosse slipped to 1-1 on Gulf South Conference action after falling to No. 24 UAH, 18-5, on the road.
 
The Chargers struck first just 90 seconds into the contest before Ashlei Piazza tallied her first pair of saves on the day. UAH then added to its lead to go up 4-0 at the 4:32 mark of the first quarter before Mikaela Barbieri scored a man-up goal to break the ice for the Falcons. UAH closed the half with a fifth goal to lead 5-1 going into the second.
 
Asha Jamieson tallied her first goal of the day to cut the lead down to three with Gencie Coan credited for the assist. The Chargers then went on a 5-0 scoring run to push the lead out to 10-2 with 3:16 left in the half. Piazza added another save to end the half with Montevallo trailing by eight.
 
The Falcons opened the second half with a pair of shots on goal but both were denied before UAH scored three more unanswered goals to make the score 13-2 with 6:43 left in the quarter. Ellery Shearer found her first goal of the day with 4:38 left in the third to cut into the lead. UAH scored another to end the quarter with a 14-3 lead.
 
The Chargers added a pair of goals to open the fourth quarter before Ellery Shearer found the back of the net for the second time. Shearer completed her hat trick with 7:06 on the clock to make the score 16-5 late. UAH finished with a pair of unanswered goals to secure an 18-5 win over Montevallo.
