University of Montevallo Cheerleading FAQs:
1. Are there scholarships available?
Yes. Partial athletic scholarships are awarded to members of the cheerleading team generally ranging from $500-$2,000 per academic year based on seniority on the team, academic standing, conduct, and athletic ability.
2. Can out-of-state tuition be waived?
Yes. Once a potential student-athlete has signed to be a member of the cheerleading program, he/she may be awarded an additional scholarship to waive out-of-state tuition costs.
3. If I want to be a member of the squad, what is my next course of action?
Fill out the Prospective Student-Athlete Questionnaire on our website and/or contact the head coach directly via phone or email. Sign up to upcoming clinics to have a better chance of being added to the squad.
4. Does the team have to fundraise?
Yes. The team is responsible for raising the money needed to attend camp and nationals each year.
5. Do I have to pay for my uniforms and/or practice clothes?
No. The cheer program provides all uniforms and practice attire for its athletes.
6. Do I get to keep my uniforms and/or practice attire?
No and yes! All uniforms, bags and warm-ups are to be returned each year. You may keep all practice attire each year.
7. How often do we practice?
The team practices 3 days per week for 2 hours and has team workouts 2 days per week for 1-1.5 hours. Practices and workouts are always subject to change, and additional practices will be added as needed as nationals approaches.
8. Are practices held during the summer?
Yes. Summer dates will be sent out by May every year so that the student-athlete can plan accordingly.
9. Which athletic teams do we cheer for?
The University of Montevallo cheerleading team cheers for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, and volleyball.
10. Can I have a job or participate in Greek life and still be a cheerleader?
Yes. However, other than school, cheer must come first. Your employer/fraternity/sorority must be made aware of your commitments to your education and the team and be willing to be flexible.
11. Does the team travel?
Yes, there will be opportunity to travel if our basketball teams make conference tournament and post-season play.
