Klotz is entering his second year at Montevallo. He came to the bricks in August, 2023 following a 12-year stint at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, just 34 miles to the north.
"With the addition of athletic teams and more student-athletes, we needed a coach with experience and proven knowledge," said Associate Athletic Director Ed Langham. "Coach Blake Klotz's professionalism and passion are second to none and will take the Montevallo student-athletes to the next level we are looking for"
A native of Illinois, Klotz joined the UAB strength and conditioning staff in August 2011 as a graduate assistant. While pursuing his Masters of Arts in education, Klotz served as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for bowling, cross country, and golf, and assisted with football and softball.
Following graduation in May of 2013, Klotz entered a full-time role with the Blazers as he was named the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. He served in this role for a little over two-year and worked directly with bowling, cross country, softball, and women's basketball while also assisting with football.
Klotz continued to advance in his career with the Blazers and was promoted to the Assistant Director of Athletic Performance in December 2015. In his new role, he continued working with his previous sports and added track and field, women's soccer, and women's tennis. Additionally, Klotz oversaw a facility improvement within the strength and conditioning department and supported the Director of Athletic Performance in running the department.
In 2019, Klotz was named the Assistant Director of Athletic Performance for Women's Basketball. In this role, Klotz shifted his focus to women's basketball primarily and supported the head women's basketball coach in all areas of athletic performance.
Before UAB Klotz completed a Strength and Conditioning Internship at his alma mater, Murray State in 2011. He earned his undergrad degree from Murray State in 2008.
Klotz brings his well-rounded and diverse experience to Montevallo as the department grows to 22 NCAA sports this year with wrestling beginning competition and the 23rd sport, acrobatics and tumbling on the horizon.
Klotz is the second Head Strength and Conditioning Coach in the department's history as previous coach Brad Bowen was named an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Alabama earlier this summer.
