Michael Nye is entering his first season as an assistant coach for the Montevallo swim program.
Nye began his coaching career at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Cleveland, OH (’85-’89), inheriting a Division III program that had won 1 meet in 2 years between men and women.
In his four years at Case, he contributed to the growth of the team to over 40 combined student athletes, oversaw the development of the schools natatorium, produced three national champions, and had over 20+ All American certificates.
Additionally, his efforts at CWRU produced the men’s conference swimmer of the year, woman’s school athlete of the year and Nye was selected as men’s conference coach of the year 3 out of the 4 years.
Nye would go on to have five student athletes inducted into the Case hall of fame.
In 1988 Nye was involved in a program with USS swimming and the American government, where he was invited to the Fiji Islands to help develop their national program and to help them prepare for the '88 Seoul Olympics.
Nye has also spent time volunteering in youth sports with organizations such as the Birmingham Swim League, the Hoover Blue Thunder, and the Kettering YMCA age group swim team.
For the past three years Nye was a volunteer assistant coach at Birmingham Southern College.
