Tanner Stancil

Tanner Stancil is entering his eighth season as the head coach of the University of Montevallo men’s and women’s tennis programs during the 2025-26 campaign.

Stancil has guided both Falcon programs to consistent postseason appearances in the highly competitive Gulf South Conference. In 2025, the women’s tennis team won nine matches and advanced to the GSC Tournament Semifinals after earning a 4-3 upset victory over No. 3 seed Lee in the quarterfinals. During the 2023 season, the women’s program recorded its second consecutive winning campaign, finishing 10-9 overall and 5-5 in conference play to earn a berth in the GSC Tournament. The men’s team also advanced to the conference tournament that season with an 8–10 overall record.

Under Stancil’s leadership, Montevallo has produced nationally ranked men’s and women’s teams, an ITA NCAA Division II All-American, a nationally ranked men’s singles player, and multiple All-Gulf South Conference selections. Both programs have earned multiple GSC Tournament appearances throughout his tenure.

Prior to arriving at Montevallo, Stancil spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Belmont Abbey College (2015-18), where he was heavily involved in recruiting, practice planning, scheduling, and daily program operations for both the men’s and women’s teams. His efforts were recognized with ITA NCAA Division II Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors in 2017.

Stancil also served one season as Director of Tennis at Montreat College (2014-15) and began his collegiate coaching career at Tennessee Wesleyan College, spending two years as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s programs (2012-14). He has additionally coached at the club and high school levels.

A four-year standout student-athlete at Tennessee Wesleyan, Stancil was named team captain and earned Appalachian Athletic Conference Sportsman of the Year and All-Conference honors during his senior season. He graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan College in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.
