MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's soccer team (6-10-2, 4-5-1 PBC) secured its fourth Peach Belt Conference victory of the season with a 1-0 win over visiting Georgia College and State University (7-7-2, 4-4-2 PBC). With the win the Falcons moved into sixth-place in the PBC and will take on UNC Pembroke, the third-seed, in the first round of tournament play this Tuesday. The match will be played at Pembroke at 7 p.m. (EST).
Following the match the Falcons honored two seniors, Erin Jollay (Richardson, Texas/Berkner) and Alex Terhar (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy), who played their final match on Varsity Field.
Freshman Taylor Kerr (Birmingham, Ala./Vestavia Hills) provided the lone score which gave the Falcons the victory. She received a pass from sophomore Paige Scott (Denman Island, British Columbia/Reynolds) and blasted a shot past the Bobcat keeper with just under 10 minutes to play in the first half.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Maxwell (White Rock, British Columbia/Semiahmoo) made six saves in the shutout victory. Her record improved to 6-8 on the season and it marked her third shutout of the year.
The game was an even battle with both teams taking 13 shots but Kerr's lone tally proved to be the difference as neither defense gave much away. Freshman Asgerdur Palsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Verzlunarskoli Islands) led the team in shots with three while four others each had two.
The Falcons will return to action Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 6:00 p.m. as they travel to UNC Pembroke for the first round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament.
